Best forest trails in Südharz

Accessible by train/bus

This route starts in Stolberg, a village in the middle of the forest. The trail leads northwards via the Güntersberg town path. It eventually reaches the edge of Straßberg. There the path turns off and heads south back to the starting point. There are a few ponds along the way, but most of the hike is heavily wooded.

This route begins in the village of Schwenda, which is located in the west of Saxony-Anhalt. The route leads north into the forest and up the Großer Auerberg, which is around 580 metres high. At the summit is the Joseph's Cross and a place to stop for refreshments. The Josephskreuz is a viewing tower from which you can look out over the surrounding area.
