The 555 motorway between Bonn and Cologne, opened by Adenauer in 1932, was the first real motorway. A great contrast to this temple of motorisation and industrialisation is the parallel route for bicycles along the Rhine. This route runs along the east side of the river and passes through the nature park on the delta of the Sieg, a tributary of the Rhine.
