Best forest trails in Greifswald

An outward and return journey along the River Ryck. It starts near the centre of Greifwald and leads to Wieck. It's fun to cross the bridge and walk to the top of the pier overlooking the Danish Wiek. Ideal for a run or bike ride with plenty of places to rest or eat if desired.

This route can be started at the Wiecker Brücke bridge or at the pedestrian bridge at the museum harbour in Greifswald city centre. A large part of the route runs along the Ryck, the rest on the north side of the river, mostly along Ladebower Chaussee. The route offers beautiful views of the river, the marshes and the city itself.

The ruins of Eldema Monastery and its remains give an idea of how large the original monastery actually was. The ruins are located in a public park. Information boards have been set up at various points to provide information about the location of the walls and parts of the building and show a schematic layout of the monastery with historical details. An impressive monastery as a witness to history in the present day.
