The Szczecin Lagoon Cycle Route begins in the historic Hanseatic town of Anklam. It leads via Swinemünde around the Szczecin Lagoon, also known as the Oder Lagoon, to Stepnica in Poland. From Stepnica, the route continues to Szczecin (formerly the capital of Pomerania). From there via Ueckermünde around the western side of the Szczecin Lagoon back to Anklam.
