The destination of this hike is the imposing moated castle in Burgjoß. You are guaranteed marvellous views from the Steiniger Berg and the Stackenberg into the unspoilt Jossatal valley. The official start is the parish church of St Peter in Mernes. From here, you hike through hidden valleys and dense beech forests.

This Spessart trail is a certified premium hiking trail through the Jossa valley. After an initial ascent, you have beautiful views of the valley until you cross a short section of forest and finally reach a pretty ridge path. A highlight of the route is the basalt cone with the Beilstein castle ruins and the Beilstein nature reserve, which is one of the oldest in Hesse.
