This route is stage 15—the final stage—of the Altmühltal-Panoramaweg, a long-distance trail in Bavaria. This segment leads from historic Essing along dramatic Jura cliffs through the Weltenburger Enge nature reserve to Kelheim. A major highlight is the detour to Weltenburg Abbey, the oldest monastery in Bavaria. The ascent to the caves is via more or less beautiful steps. At the top, you can then explore the various caves. There is also a bat cave that you can enter. Take a torch with you! After the caves, you enter the second longest wooden bridge in Germany, the Tatzelwurm. The last descent via a beaten track is then very steep, so it's better not to go down here when it's wet, as it was already adventurous enough when dry.
