Best historic site trails in Lörrach

From Lörrach via Inzingen and Degerrfelden to Rheinfelden and via the Swiss side through Rheinfelden to Basel. The route follows the main road through Kaiseraugst and Biersfelden past the large chemical and pharmaceutical plants. Back on the other side of the Rhine, the route becomes quieter again along the meadow in Riehen.

This route leads from the medieval Rötteln Castle across the Swiss border to Basel. Situated in the border triangle between Germany, France and Switzerland, this castle, the landmark of Lörrach, has seen a lot. This route starts at the castle and leads to Basel, passing the Rhine on the way.

This cross-border tour leads from Lörrach through the "Three-Country Corner" to the Rhine Side Canal (Grand Canal d'Alsace). The route follows flat, well-maintained cycling and hiking paths through the Wiese Valley and the Rhine Plain. A major highlight is crossing the border into France and enjoying the expansive views across the Rhine waterway. The trail is technically very simple and, due to the level terrain, is perfectly suited for an extended trip by bike or on foot.

The short Alsace tour starts at Lörrach-Stetten railway station, but can just as easily start in Weil am Rhein or Basel. In France, cycle paths are often not signposted. In some places, you can follow the signposting for hiking trails. Between Saint Louis and Attenschwiller, you unfortunately have to take the busy D473 for a few minutes.
