Walking

A great workout, both on the ascent and the descent. The dog and I climbed through thick fog from just above the lake. We pushed on as both the Met Office and Mountain Forecast for Cadair Idris suggested it would lift not long after we planned to summit; it didn’t so no views from the top today! The weather did improve slightly as we made our way down (see photos), but not enough to really appreciate the scenery, so I decided I’d treat the people following me to a front row seat as I tripped and went head over heels down the loose rocks and scree. Fortunately, only my pride was hurt, but a useful reminder; this walk is challenging going up and coming down, with steep and lengthy scrambles. When we got back to the car park, the sun came out.

HikingGreat!No shade

There isn’t much to be said that hasn’t been said about this trail. Great route for a hard 3-4 hours. Heavily recommend taking the steeper path up with the additional climb, hitting Corn Ddu first. It’s a lot quieter and more challenging. In possibly the silliest move I’ve made in my short hiking time, I made the decision to carry my 17kg daughter up in my Osprey Carrier. Absolutely nails - but possibly one of the biggest accomplishments I’ve done. Not for the faint hearted, but worth trying for the adventurous amongst you.

This is a gorgeous trail! Straight up, so take water and get ready for calves on fire, kids do it. I did it with two kids strapped to me. Views are immense!!

Great walk plenty of amazing views. I did it on a day when the cloud and rain rolled in just as we were hitting the peaks. But still very enjoyable and once you start to get away from Pen y Fan the numbers of walkers is much less

Really lovely walk. But not easy. Steep at points and really quite treacherous when wet.

Great walk!! Tough initial climb but when you turn around a see the view it's so worth it... we started the walk at 06:00am and didn't see anyone else until we get to the top... the last vertical scramble is fun. It was misty at the top and the descent route was hard to find so we took a slight detour which worked perfectly ... also asked my GF to marry me and she said yes!!

Pretty views but when you reach the bottom of the waterfall by the bridge the path is not really a path. Very difficult to climb, narrow, muddy, rocky, overgrown and hard to even find a path. Do not recommend.

Sensational hike, the views were just mind boggling but photos really do it no justice! Be ready as the peak is a continuous one but the view is your reward! The 2nd half of the journey is lovely past the small lake and streams. Plan for a sunny clear day as the views can see afar.

overall a nice hike however I'd recommend using the route more of a suggested direction than try following it more precisely as there were points where it wasn't I good idea to go (overgrown or sharp drops). It will help you find the wreck though so points for that :)
