Length: 7.2 mi • Est. 2 h 53 m
This hike starts from Llandogo with a climb up into the forest before continuing into woodland into a loop to Trelleck. Stop to see St. Anne's Well, where the water is said to have healing properties (hence its alternate name The Virtuous Well) - then follow Penarth Brook off the road into rolling woodland hills. This then takes you through some concrete lanes and public footpaths towards Parkhouse and Broadstone before continuing back into woodland and finally down the hill into Llandago. The paths are nice and clear but the terrain was a little soggy at times, so it's recommendable to wear comfortable and adequate clothing. There was great variation, ranging from steep woodland trails to little used concrete lanes. All parts of the route were on public rights of way, with very few areas coming near any private land. Length: 7.3 mi • Est. 3 h 35 m
Note: As of August 2020, users report that the underpass on the road is closed you will have to go through town centre as footpath is blocked for maintenance. A circular route starting and ending at Monmouth and taking in sections of the Wye Valley Way and Offa's Dyke footpaths. Some steep climbing is rewarded by stunning views into Wales. Most of the walking is easy, with a delightful stretch along the River Wye but there is one prolonged hill climb after Redbrook.Show more

Length: 4.0 mi • Est. 2 h 14 m
A circular walk from Penallt in Monmouthshire taking in a beautiful stretch of the Wye Valley. Penallt is set high on a hill above Monmouth and the walk begins with a long descent into the valley, before following the path alongside the River Wye and then climbing back steeply into the hills to return to the village. The views throughout are spectacular and in spring the woodlands boast a beautiful carpet of bluebells. A fairly strenuous outing, but well worth it! The walk has several fairly steep and long ascents and descents including some sections with uneven steps cut into the woodland paths. There are a few gates plus five stiles on route, two of which are stone stiles which most dogs (and some humans!) could need help to climb. The paths are mainly mud woodland and river side tracks which will be muddy after wet weather. Approximate time 2.5 hours. Show more
