This was rough. We did this hike in July and it was a brutal climb. Even worse was the terror of coming down. Bring trekking poles, though, and you'll have a better time of it. Outstanding views of Jackson though.

Agree with all prior reviews, with a few additions for this time of year: did this hike on 10/16, still very doable even with some minimal snow/ice in shaded areas. Quite a bit of mud once you get up higher - would recommend YakTrax or similar. Made coming back down a bit tricky - quite a few slips and oh s**t moments. Gorgeous views of snow-capped peaks from the top. One hour and 5 mins to top, coming from sea level so surely could be done quicker if you’re better acclimated. Definitely recommend if you are looking for a short but challenging hike.

It had snowed the day before and the area just below the aerial tram was icy and cold. As soon as you drop off the ridge conditions improved. We were walking in 4-7 inches of snow so did not go right into Cascade Canyon but we got tremendous views in a winter wonderland

Great hike! 2 hours tops including our time hanging out at the lake. Start early as it gets warm! My dog and I encountered a huge moose on the trail, so be cautious, as usual. Plenty of creeks for the pups and there was barely anyone else out there.

If you park at the trail head it’s more like 6 miles to the lake. But if you have 4wd you can drive up a ways. It’s steadily goes up the whole way there to the lake. Would rate more moderate because of steady incline. Beautiful small lake up top. Didn’t see any wildlife but that could be because we had our dog. It’s nice that it’s all down hill on the way back. Took under 2 hours there and back not including stops

It’s an intense hike. You are walking on a steep incline with many rewarding views and an even more rewarding summit! One of the best hikes I have done. It’s a pretty advanced hikes in terms of elevation gain. Took about two hours to complete.

My puppy and I attempted this trail last Sunday. Very beautiful and very secluded we didn't see another human but we did see eagles and moose. The trail is fairly well defined for much of it however we did lose the trail about 5 miles in a brushy meadow. We found it again and made it to the peak which was awesome. Would have been even better if it wasn't so smoky. We ended up making a wrong turn and ending up on the highway 7 miles from the car. Lesson learned, trust your compass not your intuition. Will hike again!

Beautiful and easy hike. I love that dogs are allowed on this trail.

Beautiful hike, with views of meadows, hills, and flowers. It wasn't too strenuous, but the trail is exposed to the sun in most places and there were a lot of flies and mosquitoes there.

Toooooo long

Seemed shorter than 6 miles the sign post claims. Beautiful wildflowers along the trail. Dogs not required to be on leash so just be alert with your own dog. Lake was kind of low but still easy to get into and get your feet wet. Lots of bugs!

Beautiful hike! My dog loved the little lake!!

The hike itself is very pretty with tons of wild flowers.Heavily trafficked with many dogs not kept on leashes. Tons of flies and mosquitos making the hike unpleasant. Parking was near the bottom of the pass and congested.

Shorter than 6 miles unless I found the wrong lake. My GPS said it was around 4.6 miles. Easy and beautiful #muchlikemyself #justkidding

Enjoyed the hike - beautiful wildflowers! We hiked to the meadows... be prepared for a steady climb up and carry bug spray.

Very beautiful hike in mid-July. The wildflowers are abundant. They keep your interest along the entire trail which has a nice mix of tree cover and open meadows. The destination lake is nothing special compared to other mountain lakes - low water level at this time, uninteresting shore, and lots of mosquitoes. We walked 1/4 mile back down the trail to an open meadow with great views to have our planned lunch.

Definitely a great view at the top. Pretty steep climb but manageable for anyone if you pace yourself.

Beautiful hike. There is a creek crossing, so be prepared for that. Wildflowers and the occasional patch of snow made the hike even more interesting.

FYI, the trailhead map call this a ‘moderate’ six mile hike, with 1000 ft elevation. Our AW said 4.6 miles out and back. Great flowers, and a cold lake!

Lots of entertaining flowers, rocks, trees, views as you go along. Trail was a good workout but not too terrible. I wish I would have had ear muff and another layer or two so sitting by the lake was not so cold. I also wish the fork in the trail near the end was marked to take the left fork. I'm not sure where the right one goes.

Hiked it on June 24th and the snow was 99% gone...on the trail that is! Beautiful hike. Somewhat steep, so plan accordingly. At a good pace with several breaks, it takes 2-2.5 hours round trip.

We climbed this mountain may 28th!! We lost the trail due to snow and was almost on all fours do to how steep it was. The view is absolutely stunning but boy was it hard work.

We had gone way back when around July of last year--it was definitely one of the most beautiful hikes of our trip, with wildflowers everywhere. Being from the East Coast/Midwest area, it was a 'moderate' rather than easy hike for us with the elevation changes, but absolutely worth it!

Great overnight hike and camping by Moose Lake. Very scenic lake with trout. The Tetons are not visible from this trail.

I did this hike in June of 2016 with my wife. We took the Old Pass Road To Teton Pass Trail back up to our starting trailhead were we started our hike on the Black Canyon Loop Trail.....approximately a 10 mile hike total. Okay hike close to the highway. As previously reviewed, beautiful views below nonetheless.
