This is an easy boardwalk that offers lovely views. However, to really enjoy the Grand Prismatic Spring I’d suggest taking the overlook trail.

This was a fun Saturday day activity for our camp trip. Our extended family hiked this in about 3 hours . We had kids ranging from 5 yrs - 14 Years, plus a 4 month old and 2 year old in back packs. On the Flag Ranch road, look for the sign that says “cascade creek” for the trail head. The entire trail is gorgeous. The end of the trail is not a very good view. The best view is from a rock cliff a little bit back from the end of the trail.

First, I will clarify that I am a middle aged, chubby woman who hates inclines. That being said, this was a good hike for me lol. I hiked this trail on 08/30, weather was warm and dry.

The Biscuit Basin boardwalks are great, full of beautiful pools and active geothermals. There were a few spouts going off, but my main interest was seeing Mystic Falls, so I headed into the woods.

I was hiking alone, so had bear spray and music playing. There are some hills with a bit of elevation gain (again, I'm chunky so didnt like it lol) but completely doable by anyone who walks even a couple thousand steps a day.

I caught up to a ranger-led tour, which I was tempted to join, but had a few other hikes in mind for the day, so I trekked on. The trail goes through some wooded areas, slowly gaining in height. You come to the river run off from the falls, and it is really pretty in that area. The falls themselves are gorgeous. I spent about 20 minutes there, and I was completely alone (the tour group took a while, passed them on my way back out).

The hike isnt that long, but if you are like me and not in the greatest shape, it is a goid little hike to get the blood pumping and see a great waterfall.

Apparently, this hike can be combined into a longer loop trail with Fairy Falls, but I did them separately, and on different days.

Hiked from the parking lot at biscuit basin to the overlooked and watched old faithful erupt then continued to hiked the loop over to mystic falls and back to parking lot.

Took the trail with a park ranger. Very informative and interesting.

Awesome hike. Camped at the horseman's camp by Boone Creek, then woke up early and hiked this trail. It's about a 1-hour drive East of Ashton, ID. The trail is in great shape and has some wonderful views. Even with my young boys, it was about 1 hour or less each way.

The grand Grand Prismatic Spring is certainly one of the most deserve to see in the Yellowstone. However, It's too large to see the whole prism besides it. I suggest to hike both this trail and the other trail going to the mountain besides the prism and see it from above.

We were disappointed to find that this trail is no longer dog friendly. We only made it about 0.3 tenths of a mile till it became Yellowstone National Park land.

Nice easy trail with several views but noticed some people not paying attention and nearly pushed some people off the boardwalk. Crowded so go early.

Colors from the spring are amazing!

As everything is in Yellowstone, very congested, but this was a very cool site. There is also an observation point nearby that's over 2 miles round-trip

Unbelievable!! The grand prismatic geyser is by far my favorite and a must see! The color variation is spectacular.

Fairly easy and quick hike. Good chance to see wildlife. Beautiful falls on cascade creek the whole way. Terraced falls is amazing. Great family hike. My 3 year old hiked most the way before getting tired and getting in the back pack. The rock formations at the falls, as well as the view looking downstream are just as worth it as getting to see the falls. It's all beautiful. To get a great view of the falls you would have to descend a fairly steep and difficult portion (distance the falls drop) then wade into the creek below the falls.

Flat walk.. very beautiful and multicolored pools that make this spot at the top on my must see places when I'm in Yellowstone

Great set of pools. You need to stop here on your trip. The grand prismatic gets a little steamy and hard to see, but wait for a gust and the colors get uncovered.

The Midway Geyser Basin star is the Grand Prismatic Spring, a huge chromatic-colored spring which looks like an eye from above and featured in a lot of post-cards. Early that morning, the area was halfway shrouded in mists, so we couldn’t see the blue and green colors very well. The mist was eerie as we crossed the bridge over the Firehole River and up the boardwalk past Excelsior Geyser, which showed a past explosion that moved much rock and blasted a hole in the earth, one of the huge eruptions in the Caldera. Experts think that this spot will erupt again, causing a catastrophic event in the future. Trace evidence shows three eruptions have occurred in the past 2 million years, every 600,000 years. In fact, there is a huge pocket of molten magma under the Caldera, and the area has risen due to the pressure build-up, but no one knows when the next eruption will occur. Yellowstone Lake itself is migrating southward because the north end of the lake is pushing upward. You can feel the earth move as you walk around the boardwalk. Later in our trip we again stopped at Midway Geyser Basin. On the bridge crossing the Firehole River, we spied a huge buck at the top of a cliff across the road. It was the Hartford Insurance logo picture against the sky. One trick we learned was to cross the street and scale the hill to the top for a real treat. The Grand Prismatic Spring is breathtaking in its blue-green splendor from this vantage point; this is the spot for the best view. Down below, we once again took the stroll around the boardwalk and the bacterial mats really stood out. DON’T miss it!

A great quick hike with photogenic waterfalls around every corner both in Cascade Creek (hence the name), and then in the Fall River.
The start of the trail decends fairly steeply (not too bad), and only for the first couple hundred feet, then the rest is a leisurely walk and wooded.
I'm definitely going back for an overnighter some time with my camera. It looks like I'll need to cross the river above the falls for the best shots of all the Cascade Falls. (I estimate about mid-thigh at the deepest in September)

Ok walk on a boardwalk, usually very busy & actually is not the best way to see Grand Prismatic spring, but worth the walk if you have the time!

Nice hike with lots of elk, deer and beer sign but saw none of them. Several hawks and an eagle and tons of small birds. Lake was just great and the hike was a little buggy at the beginning but nothing a little deet didn't take care of.

Went here with family years ago and loved it! Could spend so much time admiring the hot springs! So beautiful and so unique! This basin has one of the biggest and most beautiful hot springs (Grand Prismatic)! Gets very crowded...so patience is needed!

Here are two things that the above description seem to lack:
1. This is a heavily used area. If you're planning to visit June - August finding a parking spot will most likely be challenging. Be prepared to encounter a lot of people.
2. It's worth it for this reason: GRAND PRISMATIC SPRING. One of the most colorful displays of nature in the entire world. You must see this if you're in Yellowstone.

Easy walk around one of the world's biggest hot tubs. Very colorful. Be patient though because it gets crowded with tourists.

Small trail but what a huge impact! This was my most favorite spots in Yellowstone, Grand Prismatic Springs is breathtaking. I would suggest going to the Fairy Falls trail to hike up the Grand Prismatic overlook.
