This is NOT a hiking trail - it’s an ATV road in the wide open space. The ALL TRAILS map doesn’t even show that you that you get to a lake - so download the topo map when doing this. There are some pretty spots and it’s an afternoon of outdoor exercise.

This loop heads up the North Fork of Indian Creek, follows through a few basins, and then comes back down the South Fork of Indian Creek.

You'll encounter several stream crossings on this trail. Bring a pair of water shoes.

In the early season, the snow runoff creates many waterfalls, particularly on the North Fork. The last portion of the trail on the South Fork is ATV accessible.

First of all, this trail is rated as moderate. Can't give ya a bigger nerp on that. If you're in tip top physique, ya probably not that bad. But if you're the average American who works an office job and still eats gluten when no one is looking, be advised, YOU WILL BE SUCKING WIND. This trail is STRAIGHT UP with very little relief for over two miles. My husband and I were hiking with decently heavy packs and were stopping often to catch our breath and rest our legs. That being said, this is a nice trail, well worn, easily followed, great views. We went in late May, wildflowers everywhere. It was lovely. We only saw maybe two other couples on the trail, so that was nice. Bring a jacket no matter what time of year you go, wind is strong and chilly when you get close to the top. Would likely do it again. Just wanted all the other people like me to be aware that this trail is not as moderate to the average joe as the description depicts ;)

Great trail up to East Tensleep Lake. This trail gets moderate use mostly in the form of ATV/UTV and OHV use. The trail has several rocky sections in the beginning that can be navigated with a truck or higher clearance car. Once you get to the turn where the trail changes from a general NE direction to the NNW up to the lake, a high clearance vehicle with 4 wheel drive is going to be a must. There are several steep rocky inclines that must be navigated, as well as several mud holes and a creek crossing. Once up and on the top its a nice drive in the tall pines back to the lakes. There are plenty of spots to camp for a night or two if you bring a tent. We drive this trail to get to the lakes and go fishing. It sees increased use in the fall closer to hunting season.

Good early season trail. But why Out and back? Just follow the trail down to the Connection to Phillips Canyon. (And drop off a car at one end).

This was ATV Trip #2. Approximately 40 miles RT. This was the most difficult and technical ride of the 3 days of ATV riding. Trails 028 (Penrose Park Trail) to Penrose park and trail 086 (Stockwell Trail) to trail 521 were the most technical sections of the track and are meant for experienced riders.

Beautiful country, beautiful views, many river crossings. We started off from Little Goose Campground where we had a our basecamp set up at. We headed from Little Goose Campground on 314 to 521. Followed 521 to 028 (Penrose Park Trail). We followed this to Penrose Park. From Penrose Park we followed trail 112 to trail 086 (Stockwell Trail) back to trail 521, 314, and then back at basecamp.

The trail to the hot springs is just that. If you want more of a hike go to the Hot Springs and take the trail head to the North. There are several Trail Heads along the road up to the Camping areas. Most of them are for horses, but that is how a lot of the trails started.

The falls and hot springs are great, but the trail is basically a hike on the other side of the creek from the road. Also it is heavily used by horses. Do yourself a favor and drive to the hot springs and then hike up the granite trail instead.

Me and my lady friend hiked near this trail on August, 7th 2011.(as we could not find trail head and we had limited time)So, we hiked the Fetterman Massacre trail, that runs paralell to the old Bozeman Trail...and Interstate 90..
We flew to Den on Fri and then drove to Sheridan on Saturday, stopping to see the original "Ruts" of the Oregon Trail(near Guernsey). We then drove into the night to Sheridan. We stayed 4 nights there and Sunday we drove into Montana to the Little Big Horn Battlefield(we arrived late and a beautiful lightning storm had just passed by)..My friend had never been there before(actually the whole outdoor thing was new to her and I loved showing her nature and history.) . I have been there about 6 times.
We then drove Tuesday to Laramie...stopping at Independence Rock(where the Oregon trail travelers would stop and carve their names on this very large boulder..near Casper...very interesting.)
But, the biggest thing was the wonderful weather in Wyoming and Montana( and the magical electrical storms over the mountains at night).WE stayed in Laramie and the next morning drove into Denver.
A great trip and great vibes and..."oh the weather"....wish I could have brought it back to Houston on Wednesday...Thankyou..Ron R..and Rhonda..T..
