Really cool views during parts of the trail, but note that there is still snow (several inches) in a bunch of places, including one spot where the snow makes it hard to figure out where the trail was.

Nice loop that isn't too strenous but there are plenty of bugs so bring spray. Great flora, but you would probably want to arrive early to see the fauna. There's a detour at the opposite end of the lake from the parking area that leads to grand view point. It adds a bit of elevation (700ft), but especially on clear days the view is great.

It’s open! Very easy trail with minimal elevation gain. Go early to beat crowds. Beautiful lake, aspen tree, evergreen tree and Mountain View’s!

Excellent views from the top. Do the loop rather than out and back. All trails does not show the loop but it is clearly marked form the parking lot. I recommend clockwise.

Great network of trails back here. The alltrails map takes you off trail unnecessarily hence the 4 stars. Treat alltrails as a rough guide rather than map and you’ll be great

Great Kids hike, if you get their early enough the water is calm and looks like glass. Risk of bears throughout, but overall a great kids hike.

Beautiful views of mountains— family favorite no matter the season.

The lake was a beautiful glacier blue color. There was a lot of people when we did this hike 4 days ago, probably because it was super nice weather. We stoped and had a couple of big sky seltzer’s at one of the benches, and enjoyed the beauty. There is so many options to do longer hikes, with forks cut in the trails which was super cool. We tried to attempt Holly Lake hike, but we unfortunately would have been cutting it too close time wise and didn’t want to be stuck in the mountains at dusk. String lake is an extremely easy hike!

At first we were discouraged because the boat to get us across the lake was closed and we were detoured to hike to hidden falls and inspiration point when we had other plans to hike painted canyon. Once we got on the trail, it offered all kinds of trail heads. We stayed on track to the falls and decided to keep going all the way to String Lake. It was 5 miles from the Jenny Lake welcome center to String lake. Round trip was 10 miles which was great and what we wanted to accomplish. We saw 2 Moose and many other critters. We heard what we thought was a bear but couldn't spot him. The trail was moderate to easy. Some areas were tiring but it didn't last long enough to be categorized as difficult or too strenuous. Today is Oct 1. What a perfect time of year to come here! Air was brisk, at times we even got snowed on but it didn't stick. Enjoy!

Wonderful mountain views from many different vantage points.

Beautiful views at every turn. Not crowded at all today, which was surprising because the weather was fantastic.

Beautiful view of the two ocean lake on one side and the Tetons on the other! Not a single other soul on the trail , fall foliage and elk bugles in the background made for a perfect morning

Great hike! Beautiful views and amazing weather!!!

Definitely recommend this trail! Easy hike with beautiful views the whole time! Amazing view and rocky beach area at Hermitage Point that is perfect for a lunch break. We saw a young black bear and a deer on our way out. It took us about 4 hours round trip with lots of stops for pictures.

Great trail to start acclimating and no steep climbs. Lake views beautiful, sage meadows, moose conditions perfect today but moose had other plans.

We weren’t on the String Lake trail but ended up hiking part of the Jenny Lake trail. Thinking that this app or google maps took us to the wrong starting point.

This is a great hike if you are at the trailhead by 9AM. Start the hike on the South side because you will hAve better access to view the lake which is where the moose are. We saw 4 moose in the lake. We heard a wolf pack. 3 elk were concerned about the howling wolves and ran almost in front of us for their escape. But by 10:30 AM everything was quiet. Hiked Sept 17.

Start early so it's not so crowded! It was 28 degrees this morning so we waited til about 10:30 to start. Parked in String Lake Lot 3 and turned left at the trail head. We didn't turn right to go over the bridge for the loop, but continued toward Jenny Lake. We arrived at where String Lake dumps in to the south side of Jenny Lake and rather than go back to the bridge, went across the rocks/stream and over to the trail to the north side of Jenny Lake Trail. Walked about 2 or so miles to Hidden Falls, where we ran into every one else that waited for warmer temps! Then up to Inspiration Point for about 40 minutes. Spectacular! Easy and flat at times; moderate and rocky at times, especially up to Inspiration Point. It was about a 7 mile round trip and well worth the trip...

Mixed feelings about this trail. My suggestion is to do the North side combined with the Grand View Point cut off. Fairly tough but far from difficult. Then head back the way you came on the north side. There is really nothing attractive about the South side walk other than perhaps continual shade on a hot day. No views just a long walk closed in walk with nothing to see. 4 stars for the out and back option.

Mixed a few of the trails. The path was great. Easy walking

Simple walk thru part of village. Cool amphitheater there.

Beautiful view from historic spot easy walk

We are middle-aged obese hikers with bad knees. We did the whole loop and for us it was a strenuous hike. The steep elevation change about a third if the way into the hike was almost too much for me. We did the loop in the counter-clockwise direction, which seems to be how most people do the loop. I wonder if it might have been easier going in the clockwise direction, as the elevation change is more gradual. The scenery was stunning and there is a nice variety in vegetation that you travel through. We saw lots of red squirrels, some chipmunks, and what I think were Mountain Chickadees. The first part of the trail (in the counter-clockwise direction) is flat and relatively rock-free until the first bridge. It’s also the most scenic part. You could do that out and back if you want an easy, flat walk.

Outstanding - beautiful vistas of the Tetons and back towards Jackson. We clocked it about 3.99 miles for the whole loop.

Very good trail but a bit too much for the family of adults. I loved it. Longer than 11 miles as we clocked in at just over 12.

Beautiful, easy hike. Lake and mountain look out. Most trail is in the shadow. No too crowded. One of the most beautiful hike in my life.
