great trail with wonderful views of the tower and surrounding countryside. If you go on a warm day take lots of water.

Nice 2 hour hike with varied terrain and views, met only one group, this during Sturgis week.

Loved it!

Solid three and a half stars. Definitely go counter clockwise, as others have said, makes for an easier ascent. Very few people on this trail, and easy enough for my eleven year old, and fourteen year old to do without any complaining. The red hills and trail portion was pretty neat, and we got some nice pictures of both the devil's tower, and the valley.

Good little hike around the tower away from the crowds on the paved trail.

Nice little walk around the tower. Easy for kids and folks with mobility issues. Ive been to the tower enough that it's lost it wow factor for me, but great walk for a first timer to the tower.

Excellent trail for people of all ages. Come early in the morning, 5am-7am if you want to avoid the crowds and have a better chance of seeing undisturbed wildlife. People start rolling in about 6:30. Great trail for kids!

A quick easy walk around this incredible monument. Went as the sun was going down and finished as a night hike. Very cool.

Loved this trail, winds through pretty forest & beautiful rock formations. Not difficult & some off-shoots to add distance. Plenty of shade & nice S Dakota breezes to keep it fun!!

This was a great hike, and the view was Wow..

Knocked this one out on July 1st. Walked all the way around and then climbed the rocks in front to the spot you’re allowed to. It’s dangerous and strenuous to climb up there, but an excellent view is your reward.

Our family really enjoyed this trail. Just so many different environments on this trail to see and enjoy as you hike through. Well marked, no scrambling and you have a good view of the tower as you make your way. We only met about 8 people on this trail. The parking lot was packed, we waited behind almost 40 cars to get into the park, but most people just walk up to the tower, take a picture a leave. This trail was very peaceful and the people we met on the trail were very friendly and seemed to be enjoying the trail as much as we were.

Much quieter trail than the inner loop. Great views looking up to the tower, and a shady pocket valley that allows you to cool off for a few minutes while walking the loop.

Wonderful scenery, great views of the tower and surrounding countryside. Less traveled than the paved inner loop. Red cliffs area seems to come out of nowhere, landscape from another planet!

It was very muddy when I hiked, but it was an amazing trail with fantastic views of the river valley.

Awesome panoramic view looking southeast. Views of the tower are obstructed by trees most of the way, but there are a few good spots. Plenty of boulders along the trail to scramble on if you like to do that.

I enjoyed the signage highlighting the 3 hypotheses for how the tower formed and discussing some of the native american stories associated with the area.

Plenty of crowds along the trail, so if you are looking for a more isolated hike I would suggest going on the Red Beds trail which is a similar but much longer loop around Devils Tower.

Really nice to just wander around in awe of devils tower. More a a stroll than a hike with beautiful views of the prairie as well.

In late March it was still quite muddy with patches of snow, but 75% clear. Beautiful views in all directions, not least of all the ever-changing facade of “Bear’s Tipi”. The Belle Fourche river is gorgeous as it cuts through the Spearfish deposits of red sandstone.
