I just finished this hike with my 11 year old son (his first hike in the Winds)! I absolutely love this hike...the views, the smells, and the water make this an amazing hike.

The river crossings were fun and extremely refreshing (okay, cold but awesome).

I also took advantage of this hike to test a new hammock which made it even more fun.

We hiked about 8 or 9 miles in and we camped beside Square Top Mountain. the views were incredible! the mosquitos were horrible, and resistant to every kind of bug spray! If I hike this again, I will pack a few citronella candles, they would be worth the added weight. The beginning of the trail is tricky to locate, we thought it followed the lake edge at the beginning, there is a trail there, but it quickly turns into mountaineering on a briar covered cliff face. When you get to the lakes edge, before the woods starts and a small creek is flowing downhill, look up to the right. The trail is a hundred or so yards uphill and where it enters the woods. On our way out, we stopped a couple groups from repeating our mistake.

The Hike up this trails is amazing. The view of Squaretop Mountain in the distance near both Green River Lakes and along the beautiful Green River is amazing.I Hiked from the trail-head to the Vista Pass junction this year as part of the Wind River High Route between Green River Lakes and Big Sandy Openings. Hike From Summit Lake to the trail-head on a Big Sandy Openings hike to Green River Lakes year ago.

One of my favorite areas. I have been coming up to New Fork for over 30 years. The main trailhead starts above the camps area by the corrals and take you above the upper lake and down to the inlet. After that this trail starts into a canyon area which is absolutely amazing. You can do a day trip or several days along this trail.

This is a great hike. I spent all day hiking around the area. The country gets really rugged and more beautiful the deeper you go. There are some really great spots for overnight hikes along the way. A favorite area of mine.

Started at New Fork lake and went up through Palmer Canyon. So many beautiful waterfalls coming down the granite cliffs! Definitely won't be my last trip to the winds!

Hiked down this trail from Summit Lake on the thru-hike in 1990. The river is extraordinarily green and can see why its called the Green River.

Hiked this with my 11-year-old son in early June. The trail was well maintained and mostly clear, although with some deadfalls along the way. Clear Creek was over its banks through the marshy part about 2 miles in (just past the Clear Creek Trail junction) and required an off-trail diversion to cross a side channel over a fallen log. We only hiked about 3 1/2 miles in and camped on the north shore of Upper Green River Lake. Absolutely beautiful country and minimal traffic on the trail. Nightfall found us completely alone to enjoy the sunset on Squaretop Mountain. Looking forward to returning next year and pushing further up the valley.
