Nice easy walk with several bridges and water views

Had an excellent mid-morning hike here. Did this as an approximately 3.5 mile loop instead of an out-and-back by taking the Turkey Vulture trail (a bit steep, but the path is wide, shaded, and well-maintained) up to and around the quarry, then took Homestead trail (shaded, but not as wide) back down.

The views are impressive, and the trails were pleasant (if a bit buggy). The couple of times I’ve been, there have been a few people using these trails, but not many.

To get to the trailhead, take Highway 51 to exit 190 for North Mountain Road/County Road NN. Head west on NN for about 1.5 miles, then turn left onto Grouse Lane. This road dead ends at the trailhead. Parking is informal along the shoulder, and there’s no one to check whether or not you’ve got a state park pass.

Attempted to hike the Quarry Trail, but no markings until past the observation tower, after following the red trail for about a mile. Used the downloaded map to follow the red trail. Hike was still great - hilly and varied elevation. Would consider this more of a moderate trail.

For those looking to get to the trail, at the parking lot near the concession stand, walk south to the observation deck facing south side. The blue trail runs just in front of this observation deck. Follow this to the red trail. You’ll then see markings for the quarry trail.

ok, better than nothing but not a good workout for Road Bikes.

If you do not have time to drive to Rib Mountain this trail offers a nice run through an older stand of woods next to the river. My preference would be to be further out of the city, but for convenience sake this trail offers a lot for those with little time.
