Beautiful views of the lake, bluffs, and glacial rock formations. Short hike with elevation gain. Close access to other hiking trails or return to the beach.

Spectacular

Yea

Absolutely beautiful hike. Make sure you are prepared for the inclines/declines if you are planning on doing the full trail. It does get crowded by the lake views, and the rocks, especially the purple ones, are incredibly slippery, so prepare for that. Otherwise, absolutely beautiful trail with beautiful views with various landscapes.

Really nice fall hike with my dog. Go there on a weekday in the morning to have the place to yourself and let dog Off-leash. The falls were very nice.

Absolutely beautiful trail. It can get very busy in terms of other people in the area around the lake. There are two parking lots near it and many of them are just looping it. Be careful of the purple tinted rocks are there are pretty slick. The trail leading towards the lake is intimate and has great views that rival the lake section but without the traffic. Once you head away from the lake it’s much more solitary.

beautiful day we trekked, plenty of pictures making sure of no sprained ankles.

Walked it many times. Some ups but great.

loved this place! east bluff trail was great and the Devils Doorway was awesome!

Made the trek from the boat launch to the falls, 3.6 miles round trip, and did the 178 steps at the falls to the overlook! Absolutely stunning views both of the falls and the overlook!

Based on other reviews, I expected this hike to be much easier. Although it wasn’t what I would call hard, but it is not for everyone. It had rained overnight so the rocks were slick during our ascent and multiple times I had to use my hands for extra assurance to not slip. There were signs on the trail, but twice they were a bit confusing to me and I ended up having to backtrack after realizing I was not on the correct trail. Part of my confusion was because the all trails map is not accurate - so beware! I wish I had tracked the mileage, because it felt longer than 1.9 miles. Overall I thought it was a great hike for the Midwest and would recommend.

The tower has been closed permanently. There were some beautiful look outs on this hike.

Great views and very challenging for being partially blind.

Very crowded on weekends, the trail head is very close to the popular beach. This trail is also not suitable for children with uneven terrain with many drop offs. I recommend Potholes Trail (still tough) to get up to see Balanced Rock and Devil's Doorway.

Great hike esp for a getaway from Chicago that isn’t too far. Go early to truly enjoy.

Great little hike with a great view. This is more like a moderate trail vs hard. I think it may be labeled as hard due to the rocks you climb up. Go early to truly enjoy. We went at a little before 9 am and it was fine but on our way back to the parking lot (after a bit more hiking) it was starting to get busy (around 10:30). Also greeter people in your pics if you go early :)

love the view. can't get enough.

I loved the path this trail took around the lake. The viewpoints were beautiful. The cool air was refreshing. The trail was beautiful.
Unfortunately, the path is being paved over so it can be hard on the knees and ankles. Also, the trail does not allow overnight campers so allow time and energy to do it in one day. Also there were $41 in camp and park entrance fees. In addition to all that, the trail and campsite were crowded with loud families. I expected this loop to feel more like a backpacking trip and less like a family vacation tourist trap.

I suppose I should have researched more.

Wife and I were in Madison for crossfit games. Wonderful hour drive to get here through beautiful country. We parked on south side of the lake and the road in was breathtaking pretty!

We hiked a clockwise loop up the west bluffs and then back on the east forrest trail. 2 totally different experiences. West was a climb in slippery rocks up and down and lovely lake vistas. Forest on east side as a wide smooth path and we really made time. Big climb down from east side to south beach. Slow and treacherous.

Nice little trail

Great fun trail! Definitely coming back.

I have done this hike twice and both times it was amazing! The rocky steps on the East Bluff are a little tricky to go up, but it is definitely doable for the average person. I can’t wait to come back!

Challenging trail with beautiful views.

I found that the mileage was slightly off. Don’t like the cracked and bubbled asphalt on West Bluff because you have to watch every step. Watch the slick quartz on the Balanced Rock trail but it is gorgeous!

Nice steep hike, good for some off trail climbing. Good challenge for all ages and dogs, beautiful views!

First off, $13 parking fee. The park was under-construction so there were areas of the trail that were inaccessible. The landscape was gorgeous. Didn’t make it to the falls but it seemed busy coming from that direction.

Nice hike and a great view! Well worth it.

Strenuous but a great hike, both up and down. It’s longer and steeper than you think!

Great trail difficult but worth the time you can always come down the easy way
