Rockport Park has 4 loops of varying difficulty. Hikers, bikers, and dogs all coexist easily on the wide main trails, which are mostly cut-grass, dirt, and gravel. The trail system is accessible from two locations off Rockport Road, and one location off of Highway D, with a parking lot at each trailhead.

Easy trail between Devils staircase and a beautiful creek as you head toward JSOL. A cool fully shaded hike in summer.

Great views at every turn!

Janesville main bike path but rarely crowded. Nice views along greenbelt and forested areas. Mostly flat.

Classic off the beaten paths with constant up and down and lots of roots and rocks and a couple staircase sections. Hooks up with the Arbor Ridge section of Ice Age Trail for a nice hike.

Thick woods, gentle stream, and small meadow. Lots of side trails in the arboretum. Mostly single track. Challenging trail run.

I hit this trail once or twice a week and almost always see deer and only occasionally encounter other hikers, bikers, or runners. This is a little hidden gem in Janesville.

Wonderful and challenging hike--so easy to forget you're in the middle of civilization! If this is "easy" I don't want to see what All Trails thinks is "moderate!" Though we did skip the flat open part at the east end and started behind the picnic pavilion at Riverside Park at the actual Devil's Staircase. While the point-to-point distance is short, there is a LOT of up-and-down, interesting switchbacks, and you'll finish tired...and then you'll turn around and do it all again to get back to your starting spot! The glacial rock formations were interesting to observe with all the different plants and moss. The trail has narrow sections with steep drop offs to the river; I would be worried about small children, though responsible kids can handle the terrain just fine. We continued west on the trail around the edge of a golf course, over train tracks, and across the main street--look for the trail markers up by the prairie grasses on the other side. Heading west takes you into the Robert O Cook Memorial Arboretum (the Arbor Ridge section of trail) and is also quite pretty and enjoyable.

Beautiful trail with plenty of shaded areas.
Critters I've seen: turkeys, deer, rabbits, blue jays, yellow finches, cardinals, robins, butterflies, moles, badgers and opossums.

I LOVE the first part of this trail. The actual Staircase part. 5 stars. It's moderate and not easy. Very narrow but fun and challenging. Absolutely beautiful and scenic. When it goes down into the park is where I find it dull. 3 stars. I think the walk along the river is pretty but there's no challenge and it's very public. It's only fairly scenic on one side and the other side is a road. We tried finding our way back up into the woods to find the trail that was continuing off the marked devils Staircase trail. So instead of taking you down into the park you would just continue in the woods. We ended up in a golf course and cutting our way across to get back to the road that would take us back to our car.

We loved the staircase and the winding paths. There was a surprise at every turn. It was exhilarating. We only made it halfway because it was getting late and kids had school the next day but we can't wait to go back and finish.

very scenic. Took our 3 and 6 year olds with us. We had to keep an eye on them and help them out a bit. Some areas are pretty narrow with steep drop offs but they did great.
