Went on a foggy day and didn't have the best view from the top, but the trail was excellent and clearly blazed. First 3/4 mile is steep but it levels off nicely from there with several great vistas along the way to the top. Road leading to the wolf gap recreational parking lot is fully paved and easily driven.

We went on a muggy day and still loved the trail. It was a challenge for the first mile and a half or so. Great workout. We are hoping to go back on a clearer day to get the full experience of the full 360 view!

The road leading up to the trail was extremely dangerous to go up ,and I would not recommend taking a car that won't withstand off roading. There are many sharp turns in the weathered gravel road.

This is a truly amazing hike, short and sweet. Be wary of false a false summit just after the 1st mile or so. The rocks just past the bridge make for an excellent time.

Wow! Top notch hike! Some good challenges and SPECTACULAR views! We were held up on the trail for about 10 minutes with an encounter of a 4 foot rattlesnake that my wife almost stepped on! Bring water, a snack, and your camera! Amazing views!

It's a good climb with an excellent view.

First part was rough but once you get to the ridge line it’s really easy and beautiful.

The first mile was brutal for an out of shape person like me but it smooths out if you push through. This was one of the most breathtaking hikes I’ve ever been on. Just beautiful. Once you get to the footbridge, you’re just about there. I’ll definitely be returning.

Hiked this trail earlier in the spring. From the parking lot, starts up the road past some camping sites. Just look for the sign. 1st part is a steady uphill climb for about 1 mile then levels off. Nice foot bridge at the end just before the rock outcrop. A bit of scrambling on the rock outcrop. Terrific views at the top. I experienced some traffic on the trail and at the top. Due to the climb, I would hike on a cooler day. Definitely worth doing. Caution, this is an unprotected cliff top view. Hang on to your little hikers.

I thoroughly enjoyed this hike. The initial ascent was challenging, but after you reach the ridgeline it's smooth hiking. The camping availability at Wolf Gap was nice but filled up quickly. I ended up camping on the other side of the road. If you are interested in backpacking, there was plenty of spots to camp along the trail. I am looking forward to doing this one again.

My baby sis and I hiked this BEAUTIFUL trail today, May 12, 2018. The first mile was a bit torturous,

Great views at the top! Definitely recommend the hike.

Great hike with a gorgeous view!

The hike was a little challenging in the beginning and well worth it for the views at the top!

Five stars if you pair it with Tibbet Knob. You get about 8 miles and about 2000 total feet. The hike up Tibbet Knob is the more of a scramble but the views are less impressive. I recommend doing Big Schloss second for the bigger payoff. The best views are to the north and slightly west so in the fall photos remain good even into the afternoon.

paired this with tibbet knob.. totaled about 8 miles . went eith dog, he got a little scared after the bridge but had fun either way. great views all the way

Beautiful views. Great day hike! Just enough uphill to make it a little bit of a workout, but not bad. The rocks twist a little under the boots so have to watch your footing. It was a little of a busy trail...definitely not the busiest we have been on.

Great trail! Went out on St. Patrick’s day for an overnight trip. Saw a good amount of people. Great hike to get some elevation without super strenuous uphills. Excited to come back and do this again.

This was my first big hike. it's special to me because my family settled the areas on both sides of the mountain.. The Bowers family in VA and Heishman family in Trout Run.

So for me, the hike was worth the insane first mile uphill. Once it levels off, you get a bit of a break while you hike the top of the mountain. Lots of great places to stop along the way and see the valleys.

The bridge is really neat, and not something you see much of on trails. I really enjoyed just sitting alone at the summit, enjoying the breeze and taking pics. Believe it or not, you can get 4G up there!

I first went in April 2017. Then did Tibbett Knob later in the year with my daughters.

Be careful of the drive up. Lots of blind curves and a narrow road. People take the curves pretty quick and we had to pull onto the shoulder a couple of times to avoid getting smashed.

First mile is uphill with plenty of rocks. After that it is still rocky but levels off. Great views along the way. Definitely worth dealing with the ascent.

A very nice hike. Too many stream crossings too count. Those crossings are fun and not hard to do (in the winter at least).

Amazing hike! Killer first mile uphill though

We thought we got there early (around 10) and there were about ten vehicles. we spotted only a few groups on the trail but as we were leaving (around 1300) it got busy. I suggest going earlier or go during a weekday.

The first part is all uphill and is killer but it evens out about halfway up the trail. Views are amazing and worth it!!! So beautiful.

Rocky. Recommend good shoes. Excellent hike with beautiful views.

Combined Tibbet Knob Trail with Big Schloss Trail for a 7.5 mile hike with 2000 ft elev. gain. A good workout. Highly recommended.

great view from the bridge as well from the rocks at the very end. a great place to overlook 2 valleys!

Great trail. Steep climb for about a mile, then levels off along the ridge. Beautiful views. Trail is pretty rocky - so would only recommend sturdy hiking boots. Looking forward to completing Tibbett Knob next.
