meh. muddy, rocky and the view has these huge power lines in the way.

Nice easy trail but the road noise is pretty bad. You don't really feel like you are in a forest.

Nice trail. Just remember what goes down must come back up but the history at the bottom made it worthy of the climb back up.

The views are well worth the walk, despite the trail being mostly gravel road. We did encounter a timber rattler while scrambling over boulders at the base of table rock. Watch your step!

if it wasnt for the wires its would be a beautiful view

Stunning views!! Most of the trail was almost like a creek bed and I don’t think it’s from recent rain. You could tell paths were carved out off of the trail to go around the muddy parts. Most of the trail was very easy until the very last quarter mile up to the overlook!

Easy and Historic! A really nice trail. Very rocky

This is one of my favorite trails to hike around Morgantown, mainly for the view payoff at the end of the trail. It is becoming increasingly popular so can be busy at times. The trail itself is very rocky and muddy in spots. I have to pay attention to every step as to make sure I don't twist my ankle. Easy walk until the final ascent which is very steep and walking back is a gradual climb.
I hike out to Ravens Rock several times a year, always go back for more.

Hiked this trail Friday, August 3. I had never been on the Snake Hill Trail before and had heard talk of it being in rough shape following the logging that took place a few years back. For this reason, I downloaded the AllTrails app and followed the map.

The trail itself is an easy walk, no real uphill climbs. For the most part, the trail is flat with muddy areas or grass. I did not come across any jagged rocks sticking up like the Ravens Rock trail.
There are two parking areas to the trail. Either one you park at, if you follow the loop, you will end up walking on the road back to the other parking area, to which there are blind turns on Rohr Road/Snake Hill and some traffic travels fast so be cautious with that. I tried to follow the path back to my car but made a wrong turn on the trail and ended up following the loop instead.

I did not make it out to what I think should be an overlook. We followed the map to the left corner and ended up on a big rock but trees blocked the view. I assume the overlook is across the way from there. Again, it was my first time on the trail and using the app and map so I think it was all user error.

The only other item I'll note that others have mentioned is the possibility of rattlesnakes or copperheads being on or around the trail. There are signs posted at the trail head warning of snakes and I have heard of people coming across them. We did not encounter any while walking this past weekend.

Will definitely walk this trail again. Very peaceful and beautiful

Kind of muddy and rocky, but it had just recently rained. Not too strenuous of a hike until the last hill, but beautiful views from the top.

Good trail, easy to follow. The furnace is cool and you can go inside it.

A bit hilly and rocky. The view is better here than from Coopers Rock. Less crowded too.

The furnace itself is a cool thing to see. The trail is mostly downhill on the way to the furnace and, of course, uphill on the way back. It's a nice work out and is near a stream. This trail also intersects with other trails so you change things up if you so desire.

Beautiful view. The view here is better than the one from Coopers Rock overlook and is less crowded. The trail is on a stream bed so it can be slippery after a rain shower.

This is a nice trail that leads to some great views of Cheat Lake and the Cheat River Canyon.

Pros: Great views, varied scenery (alternates between thick forests and open meadows), loop trail, not too difficult or long

Cons: Part of the hike is along Snake Hill Road which has no shoulders, no blazes or signs to follow (use the AllTrails app to navigate instead), another part of the hike is along a gravel road

Even with the cons, it is still a nice hike with great views. Definitely recommended if you want a nice hike not far from Morgantown with fewer people than Coopers Rock.

Good trail with nice views. About halfway through it turns into a gravel road that leads to the main road. That is the only downside

Great trail for running & biking!

Great view; definitely can be muddy if it’s rained lately.

Definitely need AllTrails to find your way on this unmarked trail. Watch for snakes if you try to take the small trail that bypasses the road; i had to double back to the road to avoid a snake.

Great hike. Definitely watch for rattlesnakes in the open part of the clay run trail

This is a decent trail for a quiet hike. Does not get much football. However, we also saw a bear in the woods just 30-40 ft off the this trail in mid July. My first wild bear. Luckily we were a group of four people so he didnt bother us and bounded away once we made some noise. There is the scott run along the path for a good distance so dogs can drink water etc.

Went on the hike yesterday morning, and the temperature was perfect. We took the North Mont Chateau trail and veered off into some other trails, and at the end clocked in at about 11.5 miles (with 175 floors climbed)! The hike is marked well and has some great views. Walking in between some of the massive rocks, seeing the Iron Furnace and seeing the mini-beach at Cheat Lake were some of the biggest highlights. The overlook of Coopers Rock is amazing but was extremely crowded. If you come during early morning, you may have a better experience. Overall great hike, definitely worth the 5 hours for me. Check out some of my photos. Sitting down afterwards was great haha

Great views, rocky and muddy

Nice day ride. Slightly uphill going out. Nice mostly easy ride coming back. Some nice waterfall views. A bridge or two toward the end. Some traffic noise for some of the ride. Go's past the limestone plant. May encounter a little dust for a short distance. Partially shaded. Worth doing. Take a ride and have dinner in one of Morgantown's great restaurants/pubs afterward.

Nice easy trail

...had been several years since on the trail...it is nearly downhill (sloping) all the way until the last trek...then it is up up up...as others say, it was rocky, wet and muddy...i have always found it difficult to look at the greenery to my left and right, because i am watching my feet!...and yes, the power line is a sad meet but, hey, what a view!!...weather was great and just enough hikers on it to feel comfortable by myself yet plenty of quiet time for my dog and i

This trail is MUDDY and pretty tough. If it's very dry out, this trail will still be sloppy. The return on the roadside trail is fine, but Scott Run itself is muddy, and the first 1/2 mile of the uphill is steep.

I had a day off and decided to hike this trail, since all the reviews said the trail was marked and easily followed I knew it would be a great hike. Unfortunately, it's not marked all that great and I ended up taking wrong turn that resulted in 1.5 miles out and back to get back onto the trail turning my 5 mile hike into 8.
I used the app the rest of the trail until i happened upon the end of it which wasn't well marked at all and eventually I just followed the road. Everything was beautiful, and had this been at my peak fitness a couple years ago I wouldn't have felt like I was going to die. I'd recommend using the app to guide you if you're going to follow this trail as it is actually a loop around several connecting trails. If you do that, you'll likely have a much better experience than I. Happy Trails!

Furnace trail is great. Plus it intersects with so many other awesome trails. The Clay Furnace is pretty interesting too.
