One of my favorites in the area! The ruins and history are incredible.

The first part of the hike is a steep walk weaving down the mountain, where you pass a small, pretty waterfall. It levels off before you come to the stairs. There’s plenty to see at this level, like an old mine entrance.

Take the 800 steps to the bottom. There’s lots of cool stuff and structures on either side of the stairs.

The “trail” ends at the bottom, but plenty of people go right at the bottom and explore off the path. If you walk far enough, you can find the ruins of the coke ovens. It’s also possible to get all the way down to the active train tracks and cross to get down to the river, where it’s fun to watch the rafters pass.

LEAVE THE PATH AT YOUR OWN RISK! There are a lot of hidden threats. There are holes, spikes, metal, and more in the area. The old railroad tracks have decayed in a way that’s left a lot of gaps. The active tracks are ACTIVE, and the gravel makes it easy to get stuck. The current of the river is strong.

Please remember to leave no trace. This includes biodegradable items. I keep seeing more and more garbage at the end of this trail.

I’ve walked this trail a lot, and it doesn’t disappoint. It’s an easy hike to a gorgeous view, and it’s never super crowded along the trail.

Seriously. The view is incredible.

Also, they’ve been renovating the trail for the last year or so, so it’s even easier.

Just a fun, quick hike.

this was my second time to the mines but first time down the stairs and back to the top. extremely hard trail, but so worth. everyone was great and felt like old friends. we stopped quite a bit to rest and other hikers were very understanding. Southern WV has the greatest people. I encourage others to take the challenge and do this trail. just give e yourself a full day and bring lots of water.

Also has a climbing area. Well worth adding it to your trail.

Have done this trail several times. Lots of very beautiful views. Easy walking hardly break a sweat

Did this trail yesterday. We started at timber Ridge Trail because they were doing some work at beginning of Long Point. So glad we did. Taking the longer route it ended up being about 5 miles in all but the view at the end of Long Point made it all worthwhile. The view was breathtaking! We did take the Longview trail out since it was later in the day otherwise it would have been much longer. So glad we did not miss this one.

I love this trail! Perfect for anyone who wants to see what our great state offers!!

Great hike for families. We did it with our 5-month old and it was perfect. Tip: turn left when you see the “no bikes” sign.

It’s a beautiful trail down into Kaymoor. We went in the dead of heat and still stayed cool on the trail. The way up is tough, but there are plenty of chances for intermission. Don’t let your lack of cardio keep you from enjoying the trail. Don’t rush it! Take your time and enjoy it and reading about the history on the way down.

Very intense but such a cool hike.

Very well maintained trail with an excellent view of the bridge at the end. Great parking too. Many other hikers there.

One of my absolute favorites!! Beautiful views!

Didn’t walk too far into the fayette trail. But the bridge trail was awesome! So cool to be able to walk under the New River Bridge and touch it! We waved to people doing to bridge walk! Such a cool experience!

Nice view if the gorge, lots of hikers on a Sunday morning.

This is a great trail that is well maintained. It doesn’t get difficult until the last .20 miles but what a payoff at the end. Panoramic views of the bridge, river, and surrounding mountains - one that featured a waterfall on my hike today. Nice flat rocks to sit on and take it all in. It was a bit crowded so maybe go early in the day.
Right around the corner from the trailhead we found a great spot for lunch at the Arrowhead Bike Farm Biergarten.

One of the most remarkable hikes I've ever been on. Don't be discouraged by the stairs.. the ruins at the bottom are amazing and so interesting to see. The buildings were abandoned in the 60s and are now inaccessible to go inside. The top of the trail is incredibly steep at times but it's so worth it. I can't wait to do this again, I love WV!

Easy walk with panoramic views of the bridge and the river at the end.

Our absolute favorite hike! It doesn't take too long to do and it's a fairly easy trail. Most of the more Moderate parts are towards the end. If you are in the area this trail is a must do!! We have been on this trail countless time, including a few bridge days! The view is stunning! Please remember to keep your dogs on a leash. We have encountered a few dogs who were not on leash, and our dog generally doesn't like other pups.

Great trail to just hike and enjoy the day. The view at the end is definitely worth the short hike. I’ve hiked it more times than I can count and look forward to going back.

Great trail but it was to slippery to continue down the rocky steps with my dog safely. But the snow made for some beautiful picture but it trail was very easy to find and parking with a restroom was about 50 yards from the trail head

Great trail with amazing views at the end!

Beautiful from start to finish and the park is always improving it. The views are something you'll wanna keep going back to see. The one and only downfall is it can get crowded sometimes so go on a work day and an odd time and you will get to enjoy it alot more

Great exercise and would only do this once only because you literally do a mountain of stairs only to end up in ruins and then u get to turn it around and walk all the back up a million flights of stairs. It was fun and a unique experience. But if you have dogs make sure they are capable of it bexause it's pretty intense. Hard is the perfect rating for this.

Not for the faint of heart (seriously, you need to be in decent cardio shape and at least slightly athletic)! Very cool historical trail - the mining ruins are pretty awesome especially on an overcast day. Wear good shoes as the trail is steep and easy to roll ankles on. And bring plenty of water. You’ll burn some serious calories if you go to the river and back. Overall pretty fun and you’ll feel majorly accomplished at the end.
