Stunning, wonderful hike !!!

I'm an avid hiker and this trail is definitely not easy, I would say difficult. The trail is barely wide enough to walk between the edge and all the rocks. It is overgrown and hard to see where you are stepping. Very steep decline makes for a difficult trek back up. It's fun but not easy. Not recommended for children or elderly or anyone with balance issues. Cliffs and rocks are nice.

Very poorly maintained trail. Overgrown, eroded, and poorly marked. There should be a couple nice view points of the river and bridges but the trees block and chance of a clear line of vision. Not at all even close to being worth the effort..

Loved it!! Watch footing lots of big rocks among the leaves.

Lets start with the positives- the cliffs were beautiful and the trail is truly right along the side of it show casing some beautiful rock features. I brought my sister(17) and grandma(62) both of which have limited outdoor experience and enjoyed the views.
Now for the negatives- this is the poorest maintained trail I have ever ran across. The trail is so overgrown on all sides that it is hard to see anything- causing a very close encounter with our leg less friends. The trail itself is mostly eroded away and any attempts at stopping that have caused more hazards(rebar with caution tape).

Overall, I would love to see such an awesome trail maintained. The area is beautiful and the rock wall is unique for the area. In my opinion, the elevation change and shabby trail maintenance made this an intermediate trail.

Breath taking views!

A new surprise around almost every bend. Never got boring or old. Didn’t have enough time to do the whole thing but we will be back!

This is one of my favorite trails but it was blocked by fallen trees

Nice views of the creek along the way. With nice forest views as well. But my favorite place was the bench over looking the creek. If I remember correctly it's about half way on the trail.

It was a good hike. Very easy. Pretty much just all flat terrain unless you go down into the creek. Lots of fun and beautiful waterfalls, it's a great trail to take your dogs on if they love the water! I hiked down the trail & then crossed over at the very bottom where the lift is, to the gravel road only to get to the waterfall with the swimming hole. You can't access it on the trail. I also had to stop recording because my phone was dying, so I'd say it's about 5.2ish miles. You can park at the very beginning as well. Take a left at the rite aid, go through the bridge & then keep on driving till you see the sign "Ansted" with the brown barn. Also, it's great to run or bike. I think I might try that next time.

I found this hike to be very relaxing! If you have the time you can mosey along and wander down to the creek! There are some super cool historic mining artifacts and a plethora of coal bits lying around. When you've reached the end there is a neat surprise if you don't already know what you're in for.

Great trail. lots of good places for pictures and gives a good workout. It's a little tricky to find. Turn right on the one way street just past the Rite Aid, then turn left to go under the bridge. Parking is just around the bend.

Super easy, cool waterfalls along the way, not marked well once you get to the base where the lift is located

We hiked the Hawks Nest Rail Trail and started in Ansted just past the Rite Aid. The trail was 1.8 miles one way. It was a very easy trail. Their were caves, waterfalls and bridges, it was beautiful. You can also ride the tram down to the trail from Hawks Nest State Park but the tram is closed on Wednesdays, that's why we started at the other end. The trail follows the water the whole way. Their were many picnic tables along the trail. Best trail we've ever been on.

The overlook is nice, very short paved walk. The real trail is at the bottom which you can take the skylift to or by driving around. Very nice scenery.

Got there about sunset. And was a magnificent light show. Sun setting on just the tops of the mountains, as the shadows took over the deep valleys. Beautiful moment beautiful place. Only in WV.
