There’s several entrances to the trail head. We got a tip to walk past the closed gate and take a left, which takes you up a very steep, but relatively short path to the top. The trail winds through lots of sage, beautiful sky, and sweeping views of the valley below. Once at the top, we walked on the access road for the cell towers and took an offshoot to the right that will take you down a longer and much less steep switchback path back down. I was really glad I brought I scarf for sun protection and water. Also watch for snake friends! A short, sunny, and challenging romp.

We took our two kids ages 4 and 7 on this hike. Once we reached the winery there was a live band playing. Perfect for an afternoon lunch. Afterwards we hiked back down. Coming down is a little steep but with help the kids did great. There is very little shade along the trail. Be sure to go early if it is a hot day.

verrrrry sunny. make sure to bring sunscreen!

I love going up here come here a lot. Only 15-30 up it depends on you tbh love taking my dog/family/friends

This was a great hike. Did it with my 8 year old daughter. She made it with no issues other than she needed shoes with more traction. She used two trekking poles to get down which worked good for her. The winery was a fun little stop.

A very solid nearby hike. Cool views of the canyon to the north and west valley of Yakima to the South. Really easy walking. I wasn't ready for how easy it was. I was surprised to not see any snakes.

This was a fun trail to do with our children (3 and 6). It took 1.5 hours start to finish. The view of the Yakima Valley at the summit is gorgeous. Plan on carrying small little ones part the way up. The first 1/3 of the hike up the ‘hill’ is the toughest. Great way to spend a few hours on Saturday.

Amazing hike! This was recommended by a friend, and I’m glad we went. Definitely steep both ways but worth every second of it. We went at sunrise and were able to see the valley draped in a golden film from the sun. Such a great hike.

Ran/walked the full loop from the main ridge line to the canyon center. Shirt section along the main road was a little nerve racking, but totally worth it. Canyon section was the best part!!

Great hike! A little steep to start, but flattens out for a half mile then you hit the final accent. On my track you will see I diverted at the top and headed over to the transmission towers then back down to a nice overlook. Then went east back to the Selah Butte marker and on down to the bottom. So my mileage is probably about a half mile or so longer. Would have been nice to have trekking poles on the way down, a little steep in parts. Gear: Medium strength hiking boot I use a Vasque - tennis shoes NOT recommended, you will slip many times on the way down Day pack Water blatter, mine is 100 ounces I used about 30. Temp was about 54F I had an under armor long sleeve with a cotton short sleeve over, cargo shorts, the cool breeze was just perfect. I didn’t see any animals aside from chucker. Where you park at the trail head, just on the other side on the 800 foot ledge was a herd of long horn, pretty cool Location: on your drive there just turn on All Trails and find Selah Butte and you will be led to the parking spot and trailhead. Parking ifpeople are courteous can fit about 8 vehicles. This was a great hike and I will be doing it many times!

Great mid day hike with a lot of elevation gain. Sage brush thick in areas so watch for ticks and snakes!

Morning hike up to the KATS FM tower from Fullbright. I had intended to follow the whole loop, but took a wrong right turn at Albuquerque, hahaha. To follow the loop, continue West past the tower on the ridge (towards the cascades) instead of returning immediately north (back down towards Yakima). Still a fun hike, easy to knock out time-wise but still a stair master the whole way up. Wildflowers are coming out!

This area is a maze of trails and old access roads. I started at the parking area and went straight up to the ridge line. From there I followed the ridge west to the ridge high point. It was a little difficult to find the right trail to drop back down, but that just adds to the adventure. All and all good little training hike/run.

Lots of small flowers out. Trail is dry. There are lots of trails in this area, but most of the intersections have signs. The All Trails application was very helpful in tracking my location and helped me pick which trails to take.

This steep hike is worth the view. Perfect for sunrise/sunset hikes.

Good trail for families and dogs. you can use a pack for little ones but I would not suggest a stroller. Lots of up and down. No snow and limited mud!

I loved it. I took my kids and they loved it as well!!

Very easy hike. The basalt columns and rock wall were cool. Lots of birds. I saw mostly magpies and crows, but I could hear quail everywhere as well as some other birds I couldn't identify. I'd do it again.

nice easy flat trail with interesting views and lots of birds! no wildflowers yet. this would be a hot one in the summer.

Great hike if you're looking for a cardio/leg workout! Just be careful with your footing on the way back down so you don't slip and slide. It's definitely a steep one. This was a perfect one to get my hiking legs back under me for the season.

I've done this trail in both directions now. It's definitely easier to start by walking through the Ag Museum and taking the winding, linger way up. I actually preferred taking the steep way up to the left of the tank though. I had to stop a few times to catch my breath and it allowed me to take in the view. Going down that way I was solely focused on my feet so I didn't slide down. The bushes are starting to iver grow the trail though. If you're up for it, go off trail for a couple miles and follow the tv towers. Beautiful views from different angles. There's also a nice breeze up there to help with the heat from the sun.

Little scared of the rattle snakes!

Short hike, nice views, with a bonus wine at the summit

Well dang that’s steep! Great mini-workout with stellar views at the top. Can’t be beat. Close to 40 degree incline up in places.

Excellent outing with the kids. Saw a couple beaver dams on Cowiche Creek, and explored the basalt formations on the way to to the top.
