snow free mid-june 2018, except for a small patch at the top of the butte (and a few scant flakes that came down as we were up there)! all in all, great hike - the wildflowers are beautiful and the view at the end is lovely. that being said, trail definitely needs a little tlc - there were some narrow switchbacks near the start that made me a little nervous (very high up, very thin, and slightly deteriorating), and we nearly lost the trail ~halfway up due to a large fallen tree in the burned out section that completely blocked view and access to the rest of the trail. thankfully, we turned around a few times and persevered until we realized we had to scramble around it. there were a lot of precarious sections of log-hopping along muddy areas, as well.
the burnout is eerily beautiful in a way - the wind was whistling through the trees like the souls of the damned or something for a while there. the last slog uphill before the top nearly killed me, as did trying to book it downhill without falling on my face, but the view was worth it. a lot quicker going down than coming up.
layer up, because it was quite warm at the trailhead, but once you get up there the chill is intense. i knew this generally going in, and brought and fleece and a beanie, but it still wasn’t quite enough.
all in all, would recommend - just make sure you’re up for some scrambling.

I combined this with Maple Pass and Rainy Lake as well to make a nice day hike. Easy hike to Lake Ann, perfect for families with kids. Plenty of shade and a great place to eat lunch at Lake Ann. When I was there, there were dozens of jumping fish at the lake who would literally jump out of the water, even just a few feet off shore! Maybe 5 inches or so long. Not sure what fish they are but they certainly put on a show when I was eating my sandwich!

Unbelievable. Stellar trip with killer crystal-clear views. Excellent conditions and no bugs. Quick overnight up to Snowy Lakes from Rainy Pass.

It felt closer to 10 miles round trip. Excellent close up views of Big Craggy and other nearby peaks. Lots of wildflowers blooming as the trail breaks off to Burch Mountain from the pass. Snow free all the way to the top as of 7/15. I got a little distracted looking at the scenery and ended up on some steep scree on the west side of the mountain. After backtracking a few 100 ft I was able to find the turn for the final scramble up the NW side of the peak. Didn't run into anyone else on the trail until I got back to the parking lot.

This is a good 11.1 mile mountain biking single track loop with just over 1,700 ft elevation spread throughout the trail. It is very well marked and offers some views, but nothing spectacular. Still, good for a 1.5 to 2 hour workout. NOTE, parking is located 1.7 miles up NF 100 (very narrow, steep rocky gravel road), which is a right turn off Goat Creek Road (off 20). This is not what is indicated on Alltrails since it takes you to the cross country start.

We have enjoyed and not enjoyed our skiing experience at these huts. The launch point is up a long road that has typically been quite icy and slow in winter. If the snow is good, the skiing is wonderful. We had a couple years of very poor conditions in January, such that most of our party had to walk or be snowmobiled out because the ice was so bad on the hills.

The hut we stayed in more recently, Heifer Hut, is small and very rustic without a view besides forest--would have been more comfortable if we had been a smaller group. I would not recommend coming to this hut with the number of people it is said to accommodate.

I have had problems over the years with the customer service at these huts. I have not found it professional or very consistent/organized. This year was the worst when we made a reservation at a nicer hut, got a confirmation, and then a week later received a cancellation notice saying the cabin was double booked. The notice was curt and with minimal apology (almost seemed to verge on blaming us for putting them in the double booking situation--highly unprofessional in my book).

I wrote back asking for more information, and got a reply describing how stressed they are (dealing with rodents and freezing conditions) and letting me know that even though the conflicting booking happened after ours--these were "long timers" (longer than us, I guess) and would be given priority. I will leave it to the reader to make their own judgement about the correctness of this decision on their part.

Great ride. Starts off with around 3-4 miles of uphill forest service road, which is kind of boring but after that it's a great ride. Some great views, nice fast downhill and rolling terrain.

Snow free as of Memorial Day weekend. The balsamroot is a week or two past it's prime but still providing a blast of color. It's a bit of an obstacle course through the burn zone because of all the downed trees but the trail is easy to follow. Cloudy at the top so I couldn't see much but I imagine the view is pretty nice on a clear day.

Lake Ann is usually a side hike when you are hiking Maple Pass Loop Trail. There is not a significant amount of access to the lake. But you have amazing views of the lake from the ridge hike around it.

Lake Ann is an easy hike. The ridge is a moderate and long hike.

If you are looking for an easy short hike that involves a lake, there are an abundant amount of other lakes in the area that would be recommended. Mainly for access and views.

This was day 1 of my several day jaunt on the PCT. The hike is amazing. The drive is a monster! My blog (link below) has lots of pictures and a story. One thing I didn't mention is the weird hut thing you come across on the trail. We didn't make it all the way to it to find out what it was, but I later found out it's a yurt used by a company that does heli-skiing. I think they should sell snacks to thru hikers. :)

October was the perfect time of year for this hike. Golden larch trees and jagged peaks surrounding a green colored lake. Much of the road to the trail head is paved, and the dirt road section was in excellent condition. I only ran into 6 other people on the trail. Beautiful hike overall.

Fairly easy hike along the PCT to just below Tamarack Peak. Enjoyed an amazing sunset. Great views of the North Cascades almost the entire section of the trail. Worth a quick side trip up to the Slate Peak lookout area (walk or drive up the road). I accessed the PCT at the first turn in the road below the Buckskin Ridge trailhead. The Harts Pass road has one short narrow section that is a little intimidating but once you get past that it is in great shape.

Beautiful trail along the Methow river with mountain views. River is running heavy right now.

Did the hike in a on and off sprinkling weather. Brush was overgrown on trail, which made the necessity of watching your step carefully. Not very many people and lots of spring flowers.

A beautiful hike, and good for all skill levels as far as Lake Ann. It gets more "strenuous" if you go on up to Maple Pass, but the views make it a 5 star experience! And, it's out of the National Park so our Border Collies could have the freedom to run. If folks want search dogs to come find them, the dogs need to stay in shape by having off-leash adventures with their human partners. By the way, the distance round trip to Maple Pass is about 10 miles...
