It was a beautiful hike. There were different kinds of wildflowers and birds. There were only a few muddy spots on the trail that were easy to navigate. The view of the lake and the valley were beautiful.

Beautiful views. Half of the loop was pretty unpleasant with some deeper snow getting in to my boots. The summit was amazing. The view of Patterson Lake was beautiful from up high. A few hikers on the trail, very quiet.

An easy addition to the Maple Pass hike. The lake is definitely worth visiting if you're in the area.

I combined this with Maple Pass and Rainy Lake as well to make a nice day hike. Easy hike to Lake Ann, perfect for families with kids. Plenty of shade and a great place to eat lunch at Lake Ann. When I was there, there were dozens of jumping fish at the lake who would literally jump out of the water, even just a few feet off shore! Maybe 5 inches or so long. Not sure what fish they are but they certainly put on a show when I was eating my sandwich!

An awesome trail! The larches are in full swing! There is definitely snow on the last third of the trail, but it's still okay for hiking, even without spikes or poles.

this hike is just a steady uphill climb. it has awesome views you make it will worth it!

Unbelievable. Stellar trip with killer crystal-clear views. Excellent conditions and no bugs. Quick overnight up to Snowy Lakes from Rainy Pass.

Great hike with views. From cutthroat to the pct camp below snowy lakes there was no water this time of year.

Easy and beautiful hike!

my friends and i were aiming to go to the maple loop pass. got to the top of this trail to realize we were on the wrong one! but no regrets because the view is absolutely gorgeous. we were able to go up a steady pace and views while walking plus wildflowers made it a really nice experience.

nice, short loop. Bring a suit to jump in lake afterwards! hot this time of year but great views from the top of the whole Methow!

Stunning view at the lake

Beautiful fairly easy trail with beautiful views. Love the ladder over the fence.

Easy paved trail ending with a stunning lake view. Great place to get out and stretch your legs if you've been driving on 20 for the day. Hiked in Oct. and the colors were beautiful. Saw lots of chipmunks, squirrels, and a field mouse on our walk.

Great hike, however the milage is closer to 11.2 give or take, not 9.6. Rather gradual trail which would be good for kids.

Great views! Went in late August on a weekday and didn't encounter anyone else on the trail.

Steady & steep, but worth the trip!

Very easy hike, to see a Gorgeous lake in the end. Defiantly worth the effort for the view, unless you like dirt under your feet, then this isn't the trail for you, but a must do for a photographer!

I think the reward for the this hike is extremely high for how easy it is. The trail is wide, easy and not very long at all. You pass through streams and a nice waterfall.

We went Forth of July weekend while the snow was all melting and it made the lake glorious. Waterfalls were cascading down the mountainside with mighty roars.

I hope that the park service extends the viewing platform in the future over to the left a bit. It is pretty small and can get pretty cramped quickly.

Nice trail, enjoyed the scenery and took some great pics. Not a good fishing lake though.

Lake Ann is usually a side hike when you are hiking Maple Pass Loop Trail. There is not a significant amount of access to the lake. But you have amazing views of the lake from the ridge hike around it.

Lake Ann is an easy hike. The ridge is a moderate and long hike.

If you are looking for an easy short hike that involves a lake, there are an abundant amount of other lakes in the area that would be recommended. Mainly for access and views.

Great hike

Saturday, July 04, 2015

This hike is pretty straight forward; simply follow the signs. The trailhead begins just across the road from the public fishing parking lot (a Discover Pass is required). I followed the south loop before heading up to the summit based on a recommendation, then follow the north loop back to the trailhead. The trail is almost entirely in the sunshine with little tree cover, so start early if you plan to hike this trail during the summer. (Summer temps on Sun Mountain can easily exceed 95F by noontime.)

The only tricky part of the hike is on the north loop when you have to use the wooden ladder to cross over the barbed wire fence to follow the north loop. Make sure you cross over the ladder and do not walk along the barbed wire fence.

The views of the cascades and Method Valley are wonderful, and you get some good views of Patterson lake along the way. It took me just over 1 hr 30 min to complete the hike with a few water breaks along the way.

For scenery, Cutthroat pass is hard to beat. You can get to the pass via the NB Pacific Crest trail at Rainy pass, or via the Cutthroat lake trailhead further east on Hwy 20. If you're able to, leave a car at Cutthroat pass trailhead, hike in from Rainy pass and out the other side where you left your car. Mountain bikers can ride up the Cutthroat trail, but are not permitted on the PCT.

October was the perfect time of year for this hike. Golden larch trees and jagged peaks surrounding a green colored lake. Much of the road to the trail head is paved, and the dirt road section was in excellent condition. I only ran into 6 other people on the trail. Beautiful hike overall.

Incredibly scenic, moderate hike across the road from the Patterson Lake public fishing/swimming parking area. You start up the hillside until you get to a gate where you will see signs for the North loop and South loop. Either way you decide, halfway through the loop is another trailway sign that points the way to the summit. Keep an eye out for deer, mules and horses. There's a ladder to help you over one of the fencelines, otherwise there is just the one gate to contend with. Makes for a gorgeous evening sunset or stunning early morning sunrise hike.

This 9-mile loop was the Ranger's recommendation. All that needs be said.

Short paved trail to pretty alpine lake. Good for kids and wheelchair accessible.

The first time I did this hike I accessed Cutthroat Pass starting from Rainy Pass. One log bridge was down but nothing you cant maneuver around. Amazing views of jagged peaks from the top. From the Pass if you scramble up the ridge to the north you get clear views of Golden Horn and Tower Mountain. I have also hiked just the Cutthroat Lake stretch in October. It's only about 2 miles to the lake from the trail-head and very gradual in elevation gain. It was snow free while many of the other nearby trails had about 2 feet of snow. It was a nice trail for viewing larch trees in the Fall and I also liked the fact that views of the lake were not blocked by trees along the bank.

A beautiful hike, and good for all skill levels as far as Lake Ann. It gets more "strenuous" if you go on up to Maple Pass, but the views make it a 5 star experience! And, it's out of the National Park so our Border Collies could have the freedom to run. If folks want search dogs to come find them, the dogs need to stay in shape by having off-leash adventures with their human partners. By the way, the distance round trip to Maple Pass is about 10 miles...
