Overall great hike! Come prepared

Went all the way to Cutthroat Pass today 7/5. The trail is in excellent summer shape. It was mud and snow free until about a 1/3 mile from the pass. At that point there were just a handful of snow patches here and there that were easy to navigate through or around. There is a larger snow field right below the pass that obscured the last little bit of trail but it was easy to navigate. Really beautiful views the whole way but the view from the top is truly incredible-360 degrees of mountains and alpine lakes. A must do in the North Cascades for sure.

Also of note, the total mileage is a little over 11 miles.

Unfortunately getting past the lake up to the pass would be really difficult right now- all mud and snow beyond the lake. However, the 2.5or so miles to the lake are breathtaking. BTW yesterday we lost a brown zippered glasses case holding prescription eyeglasses out of our pack on this trail. Any info? Call 206-419-4105

An easy addition to the Maple Pass hike. The lake is definitely worth visiting if you're in the area.

I combined this with Maple Pass and Rainy Lake as well to make a nice day hike. Easy hike to Lake Ann, perfect for families with kids. Plenty of shade and a great place to eat lunch at Lake Ann. When I was there, there were dozens of jumping fish at the lake who would literally jump out of the water, even just a few feet off shore! Maybe 5 inches or so long. Not sure what fish they are but they certainly put on a show when I was eating my sandwich!

An awesome trail! The larches are in full swing! There is definitely snow on the last third of the trail, but it's still okay for hiking, even without spikes or poles.

this hike is just a steady uphill climb. it has awesome views you make it will worth it!

Unbelievable. Stellar trip with killer crystal-clear views. Excellent conditions and no bugs. Quick overnight up to Snowy Lakes from Rainy Pass.

Great hike with views. From cutthroat to the pct camp below snowy lakes there was no water this time of year.

Easy and beautiful hike!

my friends and i were aiming to go to the maple loop pass. got to the top of this trail to realize we were on the wrong one! but no regrets because the view is absolutely gorgeous. we were able to go up a steady pace and views while walking plus wildflowers made it a really nice experience.

This is a good 11.1 mile mountain biking single track loop with just over 1,700 ft elevation spread throughout the trail. It is very well marked and offers some views, but nothing spectacular. Still, good for a 1.5 to 2 hour workout. NOTE, parking is located 1.7 miles up NF 100 (very narrow, steep rocky gravel road), which is a right turn off Goat Creek Road (off 20). This is not what is indicated on Alltrails since it takes you to the cross country start.

Stunning view at the lake

We have enjoyed and not enjoyed our skiing experience at these huts. The launch point is up a long road that has typically been quite icy and slow in winter. If the snow is good, the skiing is wonderful. We had a couple years of very poor conditions in January, such that most of our party had to walk or be snowmobiled out because the ice was so bad on the hills.

The hut we stayed in more recently, Heifer Hut, is small and very rustic without a view besides forest--would have been more comfortable if we had been a smaller group. I would not recommend coming to this hut with the number of people it is said to accommodate.

I have had problems over the years with the customer service at these huts. I have not found it professional or very consistent/organized. This year was the worst when we made a reservation at a nicer hut, got a confirmation, and then a week later received a cancellation notice saying the cabin was double booked. The notice was curt and with minimal apology (almost seemed to verge on blaming us for putting them in the double booking situation--highly unprofessional in my book).

I wrote back asking for more information, and got a reply describing how stressed they are (dealing with rodents and freezing conditions) and letting me know that even though the conflicting booking happened after ours--these were "long timers" (longer than us, I guess) and would be given priority. I will leave it to the reader to make their own judgement about the correctness of this decision on their part.

Easy paved trail ending with a stunning lake view. Great place to get out and stretch your legs if you've been driving on 20 for the day. Hiked in Oct. and the colors were beautiful. Saw lots of chipmunks, squirrels, and a field mouse on our walk.

Great hike, however the milage is closer to 11.2 give or take, not 9.6. Rather gradual trail which would be good for kids.

Very easy hike, to see a Gorgeous lake in the end. Defiantly worth the effort for the view, unless you like dirt under your feet, then this isn't the trail for you, but a must do for a photographer!

I think the reward for the this hike is extremely high for how easy it is. The trail is wide, easy and not very long at all. You pass through streams and a nice waterfall.

We went Forth of July weekend while the snow was all melting and it made the lake glorious. Waterfalls were cascading down the mountainside with mighty roars.

I hope that the park service extends the viewing platform in the future over to the left a bit. It is pretty small and can get pretty cramped quickly.

Nice trail, enjoyed the scenery and took some great pics. Not a good fishing lake though.

Lake Ann is usually a side hike when you are hiking Maple Pass Loop Trail. There is not a significant amount of access to the lake. But you have amazing views of the lake from the ridge hike around it.

Lake Ann is an easy hike. The ridge is a moderate and long hike.

If you are looking for an easy short hike that involves a lake, there are an abundant amount of other lakes in the area that would be recommended. Mainly for access and views.

For scenery, Cutthroat pass is hard to beat. You can get to the pass via the NB Pacific Crest trail at Rainy pass, or via the Cutthroat lake trailhead further east on Hwy 20. If you're able to, leave a car at Cutthroat pass trailhead, hike in from Rainy pass and out the other side where you left your car. Mountain bikers can ride up the Cutthroat trail, but are not permitted on the PCT.

This 9-mile loop was the Ranger's recommendation. All that needs be said.

The first time I did this hike I accessed Cutthroat Pass starting from Rainy Pass. One log bridge was down but nothing you cant maneuver around. Amazing views of jagged peaks from the top. From the Pass if you scramble up the ridge to the north you get clear views of Golden Horn and Tower Mountain. I have also hiked just the Cutthroat Lake stretch in October. It's only about 2 miles to the lake from the trail-head and very gradual in elevation gain. It was snow free while many of the other nearby trails had about 2 feet of snow. It was a nice trail for viewing larch trees in the Fall and I also liked the fact that views of the lake were not blocked by trees along the bank.

A beautiful hike, and good for all skill levels as far as Lake Ann. It gets more "strenuous" if you go on up to Maple Pass, but the views make it a 5 star experience! And, it's out of the National Park so our Border Collies could have the freedom to run. If folks want search dogs to come find them, the dogs need to stay in shape by having off-leash adventures with their human partners. By the way, the distance round trip to Maple Pass is about 10 miles...
