This trail is OPEN. What a beautiful hike with everything from wildflowers, waterfalls and breathtaking views of the gorge. Pretty steep at parts but some good flatter sections of reprieve as well. No need to go all the way to the top, as the clearing on the saddle is the best view and the top just becomes trees.

Beautiful views and lots of areas to stop and enjoy them. Steady incline all the way up.

Completed 5/23/20. Went counterclockwise. About a mile in the trail was completely snow covered starting from the PCT trail head. There was tracks for most of it, but GPS was helpful a few times here as the tracks do deviate from the actual PCT trail. The shortcut trail 171A over to Indian race track from PCT had no tracks and the trail was completely covered in snow. Mostly used GPS to stay on trail. The intersection of the shortcut trail and Indian race track was completely flooded. Had to do a large detour. I personally would not have felt comfortable without GPS on the shortcut trail section. Indian race track was also mostly snow to the top of Red mountain and there was several fresh tracks. The road up to Red Mountain has several downed trees and the gate is currently closed. Parking and hiking Red mountain via NFDR-6048 would be a pretty nice hike in moderate snow with no GPS required. If you're just after the vista views, go straight to Red Mountain. Others we met on the trail said the trail is amazing mid-summer but bring bug spray for the PCT portion.

Trail is CLOSED.

Beautiful trail, definitely still snow over most of it. Microspikes would be great- we hiked in sneakers which was tiring but went a few miles in and decided to take it easy and not do the whole loop. Trail is easy to follow in snow with tracks throughout.

Great two night hike to middle falls.

Trail is currently closed due to Covid 19

Had a wonderful hike today. It is definitely a friendly hike.

Short and sweet pump. Pick your day, crowds can be contagious. Take the long way home and stretch out those quads you nuked on the way up!

Fun half day hike. Very crowded with lots of elevation gain. Make sure to bring enough water and snacks!
