The trail hike is beautiful with dense trees/bushes with birds chirping around you (summer). The peak of Cedar Mountain is not spectacular, but you can see Mt Rainier between distant trees nicely. I read other reviews of this trail regarding mosquitos. True. I would advise bringing mosquito repent (if summertime). They are not over-whelming, but there are a few annoying ones along the trail. I tried out the trail "PRO" version for the first time and glad I used the GPS tracker on the trail map - there are many intersections, thus the tracker was extremely helpful so that I always knew exactly where I was on the map. Bottom line: nice little hike.

i love this trail cause i dont have to go far to get some miles in , but i wish the trees at the top werent so tall so i can see rainier..

Easy to get turned around! Thankful for the app

My golden retriever pup and I enjoyed this trail very much last weekend.

nice n relaxing trail

Not much significant to look at, but nice complexity and challenge.

We enjoyed this hike. Gorgeous terrain. Many teens and an oasis just past a residential area in Renton. Who knew!?

Did my first hike of this trail this weekend. Easy to access. need a discovery pass to park. But it was very nice. Wild Salmonberries on the path, and tons of little side areas and alternate routes to explore! When you get to the peak, it is serene and clear. Nothing too crazy or strenuous either.

Quick, easy hike that is fun to run! Muddy in a few spots but overall dry. Came during sunset and got a beautiful view on one side and Mt Rainier on the other. Many intersecting trails and lots of mosquitoes.

short. kid friendly. signage sucks but as long as you move uphill it's easy to find the peak. top view is great. we brought a few hammocks to use at the top and found ample places to hang them. trail is well manicured and maintained. this will be in our regular list.

Great place to easily and quickly get out of the city and hit the trails. Lots of potential for many different routes and distances.

5/8/2018 (Monday) -- The trailhead for this loop with light traffic is at the cul-de-sac of 171st Ave SE. The trails are well maintained with good drainage, so there is almost no mud at all, why the creeks are still running, and the falls have not become dry yet. Leaves have mostly grown out, so shade is there for a sunny day. In the woods, temperature is 5-10 degrees cooler than in the open areas.

5/6/2018 (Sunday) - I take two loops in the 2-hr hike. One is the upper loop of the De Leo Wall counterclockwise from View Point #2 to the peak. The other is the lower loop of Terrace Trail, East Cross Town Trail, and 144th PL SE. I am so excited to find that Cross Town is now through from end to end. The trail is in good condition. Overgrowth and obstacles are all cleared. Volunteers are still improving it. Kudos to their hard and fruitful work.

Great trail. Huge parking lot, easy trail surface. We took a detour to see some falls so our hike was 9 miles. Not too hard with elevation. Lots of streams, bridges, well maintained. Saw horses & runners.

Hiked this recently on a trip to Seattle. This trail was amazing! And I loved seeing all the dogs on the trails.

The trail itself is fun to run and is good for a shorter loop. There is the usual amount of rocks and roots but nothing excessive that will slow you down until you get close to the top. The elevation gain is pretty minimal and the majority of it occurs at the very end of the trail when approaching the summit. But you get a great view of Rainer on a clear day!

However, there are a few downsides. While there are signs the trails zig zag and run into each other in confusing ways that are not well-marked. I started going the wrong way several times before doubling back. There is also a lake nearby with pretty still water and the mosquitoes were out in force, which made the view at the top a shorter stay than preferred. Finally while most of the trail was dry a few parts were pretty muddy and we did not get much rain that day.

Beautiful nature jaunt! This was a perfect day/time of year for this trail. The signs were a bit confusing at times, so I recommend having a map or knowing the intersections and names of the trails ahead of time. Definitely dog and kiddo friendly w/light traffic. I will be back with my dogs when in the area again. Great experience!

first hike on the west coast! temperature was great. there are a few stretches of up hill battles. all in all a nice hike with a lot of scenic views throughout the woods. not much of a spot to lookout at other mountains.

Snow on ground on first half of hike, rain/hail/drops from melting snow during second half. Grab the map at the kiosk, so many trail markers and intersections. Lots of trail runners even with snow. Will go back to run trails and go to Calcutta Restaurant at Newcastle golf resort for mimosa flight and real putt putt golf with a view!

3/19/2018 (Monday) - Two-hour loop from outside the gate at the end of SE 87th St (driving from 144th PL SE). Move up counterclockwise along an unmanaged trail which connects to De Leo Wall trail, go downhill a little to the intersection with Wildside trail, then go uphill back to the top of the De Leo Wall, move down along the Terrace Trail of Newcastle City.

Very easy “hike” on well kept trails. Lots and lots of intersections that we kept going the wrong way on, but we ran into a nice hiker who showed us how to get up to the viewpoint... this was the only part of the walk that actually felt left like a hike. We were there on a cloudy day, so didn’t get to see Mt Rainier... will def go back on a day with better visibility.

Great easy hike that’s fun and gives a neat view at the top. Our toddler walked most of it. A little muddy in spots but not bad.

A pleasant walk through beautiful second growth forest. Beyond the canopy an Eagle could be seen soaring in lazy circles against a background of an azure sky. While the trail is well marked with connections to other routes to enjoy

Trailhead said Jim Whitaker, not deceiver. Good hike, steep @ the beginning

Such an underrated hike with a huge payoff at the top. Breathtaking views of Mt Rainer.

Fun hike. We took the pup out for a walk. Tried to catch Rainier before the sun set, but she was covered with clouds by the time we got up there. Trail was in good shape even with all the rain. Was a nice day to get outside.

really nice forest trail.

I am not sure why this wouldn’t get more 5 stars. It’s appropriately rated, easy to get to, trial is nice, and there are many many smaller trails to make it more challenging or longer. I went to both waterfalls, the first set is about .5 miles from the cul de sac, and cascade waterfalls are 1.0 in but another .5 uphill to get to. Very little mud, very few hikers (2pm on a Thursday till 5pm). I had a small dog and a baby strapped to my front and was comfortable the whole time.

Great short hike with a view of Rainier at the top. Well maintained year round and good spot for some lunch on a sunny winter day
