BEES. About 2.5 miles in, Look out for a orange streamer with a note saying bees 20’ ahead. Yellow jackets are there. We did not look to see if there was a route around the nest. We kept running. If you see the orange surveyors tape with the note, look for another way around, or turn around.

HikingGreat!

Great hike! The solitude is so peaceful and exactly what I needed. The drive up is a little rough. I have a small hybrid and there were some bumpy areas with one lane turns so I would have loved to have a larger vehicle to get up to the trailhead. I only hiked to the Wolf Bar area but others coming out from multiple day hiking and camping said it was a fantastic trip

HikingGreat!

Found a pair of jabree wireless headphones, left them at the start of the trail under one of the overhang signs. Also there was no road closure today

Extremely beautiful! Very ancient moss-draped forest with streams and waterfalls. Not too steep but challenging enough in hot weather. Well shaded and well maintained path.

Not as wet and “rainforest” like as we were wanting. Beautiful old growth and moss though!

HikingGreat!

Starts off deciduous mixed vegetation then becomes more evergreen farther up the trail. Lots of huckleberries out.

Another great backpacking trip with some friends for Labor Day weekend. Weather was beautiful made it to Moonshine Flats with our heavy load in 4 hours, during our hike about 2.5 miles in or so there was a yellow jackets nest on the ground next to the trail so beware of that. Lots of other bugs too. The next morning we woke early to see the beautiful sunrise at the top of Colonel Bob. There was no visible sign of the Elk carcass on the way to the top. Last day, our trek back down took us about 2 hours with trekking poles (highly recommended for going back down) & lots of water unless you have a water filter, you can refill down by the creek @ Moonshine flats All in all it was a great trail to hike.

Well-maintained trail. Mostly in the shade. A perfect walk for our first afternoon on the Olympic Peninsula.

Okay guys, the state of this trail is a bit dire. I would say if the trail was maintained it would be a moderate hike, but with the amount of scrambling and attention to footwork, the trail is definitely difficult. Didn’t make it all the way to the top, the senior dog was having extreme difficulties, and turned back about 1.75 miles in. Would be a super fun trail if you were out with an adult and agile pup or children who are outdoor savvy over the age of 7. Would love to go back and try again with different company. Beautiful scenery!
