This was a great hike. Well maintained. Disappointed about the fog but an added bonus to have the ability to drive to see the view! Fog burned off on the way down, so we drove over and enjoyed the scenery!

Lovely, well maintained trail easy enough for all levels including beginners. It follows a river. If the lovely couple who graciously loaned me her shoes and his socks because I left my boots at home see this, please contact me so I can return your things. You took down my number but would not give me yours. You live in the Olalla area. I am an honest person and want to return your boots and socks.

First trail I drove my Jeep up. It was easy drive and the view was amazing!

The last time I hiked this trail was when I was in my late 30’s/early 40’s and I haven’t been up there since, which was back in the mid 80’s. I’m 72 now and still wanting to do that hike again. Your reward for hiking to the top is the view you get when you get there. Be sure the weather report for the day of your hike is for clear weather because you will be able to see almost all of the Puget Sound and Vancouver Island, Vancouver and Victoria, BC all the big cities in Puget Sound and when you turn around you see all the snow covered peaks of the Olympic Range. The view up there is what it’s all about, so if you haven’t been there yet, you should go.

My husband, dog and I enjoyed this trail today. A few cars at the trail head when we arrived at 11:00. Beautiful walk through the woods, high above the river for most of the way. There are two bridges crossing the river, at the second one you're able to get down to the river and there's a nice spot to enjoy lunch and for the dog to swim. We didn't go all the way to the Notch Pass junction, but I think it's just a few minutes beyond the second bridge. More people coming up the trail when we headed down, and most of them had dogs. Very enjoyable, not difficult, day hike!

Great hike, beautiful views 8 miles round trip from upper parking lot, bring plenty of water. well maintained trail.

Awesome hike, easy to find, forest roads weren’t bad at all compared to a lot of places we hike around Rainier. The directions link was spot-on.
Me and the bf did this on a Saturday with the dogs, only saw a few people. It was the perfect length considering it’s a pretty good incline (we also got there late in the day). It’ll definitely get your heart pumping, but the trail was really well maintained. Beautiful views from the ridge line at the top.

This trail is shoots and ladders getting up. Starts out pretty mild but then the rest of the trip up to Lake of the Angels is a steep trek. Definitely recommend poles if you have them. The views were incredible and was a perfect fall hike. Worth every drop of sweat. Would have been great to camp out near the lake so we could have done a little more exploring around the peeks, but left for another time. We were able to do this as a day hike, but would make a perfect one night stay. Getting down was kinda rough, but it’s nice that it mellows out in the end.

LOVED IT!! My pup and I made it up in 30 mins...it was a lot of work to be fair ☺️. . .KILLER views if you’re willing to go another 15 mins! Follow the trail to the right, when it Y’s go LEFT and you’ll come to a BEAUTIFUL view point!!

Great hike! Not a ton of scenery, but the trail is really well maintained and it has a great balance of up and down, with a few bridges. If you enjoy the beauty of the forest, this is a must do! I would personally rate this as a moderate, and more on the lighter side of traffic since we only saw 3 other people there on a sunday with GREAT weather

There's plenty of parking, a pit toilet at the trailhead, and the trail is only about 8 miles total if you start from the upper trailhead. The trail itself is incredibly well maintained and well marked and the views from the ridge were well worth the miles of switchbacks!

Had a great morning hike/jog on this trail today.. maybe saw six other people total and one happy puppy. Extremely easy to follow and directions made it simple. Nice hike and not overly challenging

generally: low elevation trail; lush, through forest along the river the whole way, next time consider hiking up to ridge
parking: free at trail head, road, paved most of the way, doable in any vehicle
trail: easy, packed ground, not overgrown, some bridges
scenery: lush greenery, along river, nice on a sunny day, wound also be good if raining
people; saw a few others on a weekend

My dog & I had a fabulous hike! Definitely going to hike here again.

Great hike, easy out and back, river was beautiful

This is very tiny waterfall.

Easy trail, but nothing special.

Great hike for me and my level of experience. Longest day hike yet on a very well maintained and serene trail. Elevation change is moderate but enough to keep things interesting

went there August 12th 2018. it was cloudy but definitely a great hike.

Whew! The inclines were never ending but that’s the joys of summiting mountains! I brought my six year old with me. We did some frequent stops and I put him on my back for a lil bit because I was impatient to summit. He did absolutely great throughout the whole trail. Hit the trail around 10 am. At noon it started to get a little busy. Lots of dogs on this trail, they love it.

The only bummer was the fog. Did not get to see the view. But super proud of my kiddo for completing his first “moderate” hike!

Did this on an early Sunday morning and were the only ones out there at first. Fully shaded and pretty much straight up the entire way up. as many have said the summit itself has a nice clearing but the view itself is obscured by trees. We continued down a spur trail at the summit that lead us over a ridge and then another landing with a great view of the Olympics. It took us about an hour to get up to the summit then another 15 min to walk over the ridge on the spur trail.

Other reviewers have mentioned not to use Google maps to get there - something must have changed because we had no problems with Google maps getting us to the trailhead (no sketchy, poorly maintained service roads as others suggested).

I did this one with my 2 dogs as part of a loop connecting with Tubal Cain Trail. Shady trail with a good lengthy elevation gain to finish it off. Plenty of water throughout.

Groomed trail. Beautiful views. Aggressive huge horse flies; bee body with fly wings! Steady climb up. No cover at about 2 miles. Suggest starting early to avoid the hot sun. Beautiful display of wild flowers at 2 miles.

Best maintained hiking trail I’ve been on. Went today and it was beautiful weather! A little hazy at the top but well worth every step up. Take bug spray and use it frequently- lots of bugs. Get there early for parking. Best hiking trail I’ve been on!

Beautiful views. Worth the trek up. Highly recommend putting this on your summer to-hike list. It is a popular hike so preferably do this on a weekday and start early if you like solitude.

Took trail in mid spring after road opened. Terrific views rewarded the hike. Trail crowd was light but topside was crowded with those who drove up. There are benches to enjoy the view of Mt Rainier but I had to wait my turn to sit down and have the snack I packed to eat after the hike up. Furthermore a group of people were chatting very loudly killing the vibe of the view.

This hike might be better before the road opens.
