First time to Gillette Lake today. It was easy-mod with slight up/down in elevation... very doable. The trail was partially overgrown in most places, so I would recommend wearing long pants/sleeves. The trail (PCT) is a combo of National Forest Land and private property, so it does go through a few clear cuts. Warning: lots of poison oak, esp once you get to the second clear cut and beyond. The lake is really pretty and the guys caught some nice little brook trout! Catch and release fly fishing. There's a private gravel road right above the lake that had a fair amount of large truck traffic (hauling rock), just FYI. That and the powerlines decreased the ambiance a little. A truck driver stopped to tell us that there's a mama bear with two cubs in the area, but we didn't see them. Overall pleasant hike, and fun to stop and fish for awhile.

Closed again today.

A brutal beast of a hike! Long and winding and gradual for many miles and then the heartbreak ridge to thw summit which truly lived up to the name. We were pretty much exhausted by making the summit and the steep loose rock on the way down was not fun. Amazing views and lovely forests much of the time. 10 hours from start to finish. Very sore and bug bitten the next day but have a great sense of accomplishment.

No longer closed. First time doing this trail for me, and everything lived up to its expectations. It was long --17-18 miles and my quarantine legs are no more now. Heartbreak ridge lived up to its name on the way up, but was honestly less steep and exposed than west way. I couldn't enjoy the exposed views of Westway on the way down because it was steep loose gravel and with every step I was actively trying to not fall over/die. If I ever did this hike again, I'd probably take heartbreak both directions. There's a beautiful lake to dip in (about 2.5 miles in) on the way out. Also, the trail is definitely overgrown in a few spots (not enough to lose the trail), and I got some kind of bumps all over my bare legs from stinging nettle or poison ivy. So, maybe wear pants? Also don't do what I did and ever leave the PCT between mile marker 0.5 and 6.0ish -- I accidentally took a wrong turn on what seemed like a wider trail and added a mile to my overall count.

Closed as of 5/27/2020. Discovery Pass Required.

(When open) I wasn’t impressed, better views on other trails down the road. Too many people at the top, we had to wait our “turn” to see anything

Still closed due to COVID 19. Back when we were there it was an easy out and back. Relatively short and little elevation gain. Bonus is you can swim in the lake, which frankly is more of a pond.

ALL TRAILS FROM THIS TRAILHEAD ARE CLOSED DUE TO COVID. signs say those who hike anyway are subject to arrest (which is overkill if you ask me, but whatever)

Saw a black bear, it was epic!

This trail is actually closed. Unlike some other trails that say closed but are actually open, there are blocks in front of each trail head and the entire parking lot.

The trail was in great condition and was such a fun short hike. I would definitely check out another local hike if in the area!

this is a really nice workout if you don't stop..... the views at the top amazing!

Gorgeous view going up!! Loved it! Was a quick hike

Nice easy trail. Just be warned bathrooms are locked due to Coronavirus. Perhaps find a stop before you get on trail.

Nice trail that wasn’t ridiculously crowded due to COVID-19. People said it was more crowded than normal but I felt like we were able to maintain social distance. My dog loved swimming in the lake.
