Good hike, Two beautiful lakes. We went there with kids (11 yr, 8 yr, 6 yr). Trail path is wide enough and good. Moderate crowd.

Been there on Saturday 08/04/2018. One of the best hikes. Though it is little long hike for me, I enjoyed it fully because of few view points on the way. Trail is wide and good. The lake at the end is nice and easily accessible for swimming. Small parking area. I would go there again.

We loved this hike! The Ira Spring trail is fairly steep and provides a good work out, with some interesting exposed sections periodically up switchbacks and then amidst boulder fields toward the summit. Views are incredible on a cloudy day. We went up and over to the Mason Lake trail on the other side of the peak and enjoyed a nice break at the lake, enjoying the serene water and quiet before making our way up and back down the front side.

on Pratt Lake Trail

Great trail thats in good shape. A few flies and mosquitoes near Talapus connector but nothing crazy.

Lovely cruise hike with just the right amount of mystery about which mountain creature you might run into (sadly this bear-hungry Aussie only came up against one mean squirrel but a nice handful of humans coming up the trail while we made our way down).

Did this 2 weeks back. Good one.

Easy trail, gradual grade, no steep spots. Pretty lakes. No bugs today but it was quite cool (55-60 degrees). Good for most skill levels. 3mi to Olallie.

Arrived at 7:30 with 2 parking spots left . Great ( mostly) shaded hike, with gentle switchbacks. The entire hike was extremely pleasant. Watch your steps pretty rooty & rocky in some areas. Definitely bring bug spray.

Bring bug spray! There are a lot of open areas, so you'll be under the sun quite a bit. Trail is pretty rocky too. I got to the trailhead at 830am on a Sunday, and the lot was getting close to full.

Sunday 7/29/18 - it was a great, easy hike. Like many said the trail provided plenty shade that even the hottest day here (92 degrees in Bellevue at 6:00 pm) wasn’t a problem. We started at 8:30 (parking lot was already full) and was at Olallie Lake by 10:00. There were lots of bugs at the lake and we also saw a pretty big snake. There were several campers at both lakes and it seemed fun.

Your relationship will be tested unless you bring bug spray

Late July, tail was dry, second lake was warm, forest mercifully shaded the trail.

get an early start on the trail...afternoon will make it harder to complete the hike.

Excellent day yesterday! The hike and lake were pristine. Nothing difficult or extreme in terms of hiking grade - just nice and relaxing. Bring the bug spray, though.

So crowded!! Went on Sunday July 14, arrived at 9am and the parking lot was overflowing. Good workout, spectacular views of Rainier and the dusting of Indian Paint Brushes was nice. Couldn’t stay long at Mason Lake due to aggressive bugs. Would’ve rated this higher for just the hike alone but I think the experience of bugs and overpopulation left us wanting...

Good hike, great views, children 3 & under would need to be backpacked in. Probably a little challenging for kids 10&U due to elevation changes and terrain of roots and rocks on the path but doable . Overall Good path, easy to follow.

Nice place to hike !

Great hike, not too difficult but not too easy. Trail is well kept, and the views are great on the first half of the hike. A lot of bugs by the lake, as expected this time of the year. Overall a good trail and since it's on the PCT you can always hike further.

Too many bugs at the moment but worth the hard hike. We covered a bit of Bandera to get some beautiful vistas of the Mount Rainier at a distance and then looped back to complete the Mason lake trail. Lots of swimmers enjoying what turned out to be an wonderful sunny day. We saw few campers at the edge of the lake too.

Great views as your trek up the trail. Has steep climb and rocky patches. Glad we brought bug repellents.

Great workout to get to the top, but the lake view was amazing!

A nice mix of sun and shade with lots of wildflowers and ridgeline views. Don't be fooled by the easy start... the incline gets much steeper once you turn the corner! The constant incline is met by gorgeous views along the way and at the lake. Don't forget bug spray!

Worth the effort for the stunning lake! Wonderful for water dogs, many places for them to cool off along the trail. Trail is dry and snow free now, wildflowers our but not too numerous. Steep and rocky the last 1/3 or so. Camp a night at the lake if you can. MOSQUITOS bring spray and stay in the breeze at the lake

First time ever doing this trail and I loved it. Did it today July 18th. Started at 6am and got back around 1. Went to the lake which was amazing. Got some good photos as the fog was going away. Then turned around and took the Bandera Mountain trail. Don’t know if I made it completely to the top but I had to climb three or four rock bolder areas. That was a little hard but worth it. I even took my dog even though some reviews on here and the Washington trail site said not to because of the rocky areas. But my dog had no issues except with some big rocks but I just helped her out. If you do this trail, try doing both and go early.

Great hike! Few bugs. Moderate incline and lots of shade. Great views of Mt Rainier. Nice lake to play in. I’d give it 4.5 stars. Snow Lake is actually prettier. Toilets at the trailhead :)

Great little backpacking trip. The route is varied and fun. The first half of the hike is pretty standard uphill slog, broken up by some very neat views, including a long wooden bridge and multiple water falls. There are some technical elements to the 2nd half of the hike, as you descend into the basin, which makes it more fun and challenging. Overall the hike was pretty easy when broken up into a 2 day backpacking trip.

There's no evidence of snow anywhere on the trail and it is nice and warm as of this writing. Take a swim in the lake, it is well worth it.

Such a beautiful hike. I thought the waterfall was called Snowshoe Falls? The wildflowers will be in full bloom by 7/20. But there are other trials with much more wildflowers than this trial. Snowshoe Falls is great. Both Upper Melakwa and Melakwa Lake are picture perfect alpine lakes. The bugs just came out this week . . soooo it’s time to start bringing the bug spray. There is snow past Upper Melakwa to the pass.

beautiful lake! i even jumped in. I'd say its more like 9 miles. it took us 5 hours to hike there and back, not including the break at the lake. pretty gradual and lots of sun so wear sunscreen!
