We did this last week and the trail was 90% snow covered. We camped at dog lake on the only pad of dirt, and lake was still frozen. It was beautiful.

just went up there yesterday and it was closed :( so just a heads up but there's some trails up by swamp creek we went to.

Closed!

short hike, but fun awesome for kids!

It was an easy hike to the waterfall, we backpacked our 2 year old son. The cave was awesome (you definitely need a good flashlight, your phone light doesn’t work very well). The waterfall was too crowded for my personal liking, but was pretty. You do have to trek through some water, and over rocks, but nothing too bad, there’s rocks in the water to step on so you don’t get your shoes wet. Overall, it was a fun short hike, we will probably go again, and take our 7 year old with this time. ( Forgot to review last summer )

Trail is still closed for the season.

Beautiful day to go. Tamaracks were golden. Mountain goats were out. Along with both mountains.

Super easy hike. Pet friendly. Not too hard on the knees. Cave was small and not too scary. Didn't see any bats. Views to cave are amazing! Signs with history and a great plus!

This was an AWESOME experience!
Hike isn't too bad my 3 year old twins love it. Make sure you wear comfortable sturdy shoes that you don't mine getting wet, if you want to see the water fall.

Great hike with a few steep parts, such as the climb out of the caves. The Kiddos will get a kick out of the caves

I've taken this drive 4 times now. I love wildlife, and this is a perfect opportunity for that. I've camp up there too.
If you take it from white pass it's like 8 miles to the top, if you take it from Nile (chinook pass hw) it's double the distance, id recommend drive up from white pass hw and come down the longer way towards Nile, be careful with crazy drivers taking the downhill corners to fast... I've seen elk up there, coyotes, squires, chipmunks, pikas!!!! :) grouse, jays etc and once u up there I'd recommend adventure yourself into rd 190 all the way to the end is timberwolf mt, amazing views, and also mt goats can be seen up there, if you didn't have any luck try rd 199, I've seen them there too.

I hike this every year atleast twice. It's a great, short trail for people with kids or people that aren't avid hikers and need to start slowly to get in hiking shape. :) I'd definitely recommend going mid week in the a.m. to beat the crowds and the heat. There is a nice day use picnic area and a place for you to dip your toes in the river after the hike if you desire. If you do bring your kiddos, PLEASE read the interpretive signs along the way that caution about cleaning your shoes upon entering and leaving the cave, not shouting in the cave or pointing your flashlight up, and staying on trail. This area has been shut down before because people didn't observe these basic rules and trail etiquette.

Great family trail, very easy and fun.
All ages and skill level can complete this small hike.

My kids loved this hike and the cave was great. They really liked the waterfall and the pool it created.

the hike was beautiful, however in July come prepared for a ton of mosquitos they are horrible, layer ip and a net fir your face will be your saving grace. The trail is at least 5 miles one way not 6.7 there and back as indicated in above discription. FYI.

My family and I attempted this drive memorial weekend. Near the last mile or so of the drive, there was a sizeable pile of snow blocking most of the road. Our vehicle (a dually) couldn't make it past the narrow gap, but I imagine a traditional 4WD could. Within a couple of weeks we will likely try again, as I imagine it will clear up by then.

Boulder Caves requires a Northwest Forest Pass or there is $5 use fee and box to pay. There is plenty of paved parking and picnic tables in the shade by the parking lot. Two sets of pit toilets. The trail to the cave was a decent dirt path. Lots of families and small children out hiking it. Bring a flashlight, headlamp, and at least your phones flashlight for the cave. It is very dark in there and it's one way in and one way out. Our trip was an easy 1.5 miles roundtrip. Even at the beginning of September, it was pretty warm on the trail and in the cave.

Very fun and easy trail for families with little ones. We hiked back in the water (not deep) and the kids had a blast.

Solid outing. Good scenery, fresh air and wild flowers. I'd rate the trail difficult as a 3.5 out if 5. We went out beyond the the route marked here and encountered some loose shale and very rutty trails. the views made it worth the effort. An average toyota tacoma should do this with no problem, but subarus will struggle. roads poorly demarcated so don't forget your compass and gps.

Great for a beginner!

It was a nice hike. The majority of it was uphill, with a lot of rocks and roots. Great views and smells. One downer were the mosquitoes. When ever we stopped moving they would swarm.

Easy hike. Beautiful scenery. Dark cave, so bring a flashlight. There is even a secret "water slide" which is really fun. Can be a family hike for those who like to hike with kids. Nice and shaded hike.

My wife and I went up the end of the 2nd weekend of October. Temperature was excellent, and once you make the rock falls, you can begin to see out over the terrain. Hike is only moderate, but it does climb most of the way in. The bridge is washed out and seems like it has been all summer and maybe longer. There is a trail developing to a fallen tree about 75 yards upstream from the bridge footings. Parking was no problem in October as the campsite had just one occupant. The William O. Douglas Wilderness boundary is just a half mile in or so, so we filed a permit at the trail head.
