beautiful trail.

Why is everybody calling this trail 7.7 miles. Its 5.2 miles to the junction of trail #522 and #507! Since this is where #533 ends, its a 10.4 round trip.

Okay, first of all, this trail has a bridge out in a swamp about halfway up. It is passable in more dry weather but could be impassable in rainy weather. The elevation change is 2300!!!! feet. Although many sections are not particularly steep, some are. There are no real views until you reach Crowell Ridge and then what are you going to do? Turn around and walk back 11 miles. I recommend this for going partway up and getting a good workout. Then coming back down without seeing many views. That is what we use if for in the spring for training.

Sullivan Lake is my favorite place to camp in this area. Last summer we finally did this hike. Great easy hike. Absolutely gorgeous! We had three dogs with us, who loved this hike just as much as us. Will definitely hike again!

If your goal is to get a lot of exercise, this is the trail for you. Lots of steep uphill, however not many views. The only view is about a mile up the trail. There is really cool fen partway up the trail if you like rare plants. You can loop this trail with two other ones and come out on the Red Bluff trail for about an 11 mile one way trip. You just need two cars at Red Bluff and Halliday. Nothing at all spectacular but lots of up and down. Might be good for experienced mountain bikers in the shoulder season.

We camped on Lake Sullivan and hiked the trail while we were there. It was a pretty easy trail. We saw big horn sheep running up and down the trail several times a day to get water. It was beautiful there and we boated on the intimate lake.
