Drove to the overlook on Monday June 1st and passed by the trailhead. It is still closed off. Overlook was still a treat and you can’t beat that drive!

Trail has a “closed” sign in front of it, but it is still accessible and a hike worth taking! Absolutely beautiful view of Diablo Lake.

I hiked to the Fourth of July Pass from the other side (starting at the Colonial Creek Trailhead), but turned back at the pass because the trail was covered in snow, and in a large swamp of melted snow. The rest of the hike was fine, if you don't mind climbing over downed trees. No one else was on the trail.

Drove 3 hours to get here! Trailhead closed off and no way of getting around it!

The Campground is closed due to COVID-19 at the moment however you can park right across the road and walk to the trail from there. That also made the trail very quite and secluded which was a treat it also made it a little less maintained there were a few tree downs but, all easily maneuvered. We did Thunder Creek to 4th of July Pass, we made it most of the way and saw no snow. It seems if we had continued to trek further up that we would have had an impressive view of several glaciers. There were also no Bears or signs of any but, still Cascades National Park so be aware and bring proper equipment. There a few campgrounds along the way to 4th of July pass if you are looking for a nice overnight. There are a couple of trails that connect back there after 4th of July Pass so you can pick any length you would like.

Don’t go yet. I drove 2 hours to get here yesterday and got turned away by the park rangers. TRAIL IS CLOSED

Beautiful trail overall. the first 1/4th of the trail is rocky and has very little canopy- the remainder of the trail, however is amazin- lots of moss, clear rivers and large trees! about halfway there is an enchanting area with very little brush, lots of moss, large trees and river feature! last 75 yards is steep, but soft ground! wonderful trail!

Hiked 5/23. Did this trail today with 5 other people. It was a last minute decision as many of the trails in the area were still closed. Without knowing a thing about the trail, we dredged on. It was a slight and steady incline all the way up. Just as the whole group were discussing now long this trail is, we reached the lake! It is a very cute, pleasant alpine lake. Be careful of ticks! One person had a tick on his shoulder the whole way home and another saw one on her pack!

It’s 5 miles round trip. The middle next to the stream is really beautiful.

Is this trail open now?

Views okay. Trail in mediocre condition. Lots of people.

If you’re hoping for some good views of the lake, this isn’t the hike for you. Some trees down on the trail.

There is a packed snow for the first 200 meters or so (parking lot I assume) ; but once we get on the proper trail, it’s manageable. There is snow in patches, but mostly packed.

Some friends of mine and myself are planning a high mountain hunt next season. Is this area open for hunting?

For the season the pedestrian bridge is closed and you have to cross over the traffic bridge to get behind the power generating building, however it is worth a trip to get out and see the gardens. There were some fish in the river below when crossing the bridge.

Trail head was easy to find and park at however it is a long a busy highway so take care in hiding your stuff out of view. The first crossing of the river was not easy to find a way to get over since they had already pulled the bridge. For the season. I made my way across on the way up and found a better way on the back way back. The trail was great all the way to the top and was very nice adventure.

Gate closed. Unless you want to walk 3 miles to the trail head to start your hike.

The trail is bone dry as of 10/28. Your welcome. Also, awesome views 360. Peekaboo snow capped mountains throughout the hike too. Great short hike! Easy end of “moderate” for sure.

Lookout is closed and a good amount of snow the last half mile.

I would not recommend this trail at this time. It is basically a river. You’re welcome!!

We got off the trail and ended up on a road that ended at Buster Brown Campground. Beautiful day and nice hike.
