on Hidden Lake Trail

Beautiful hike with a swim in a crystal clear lake at the end. The trail was very easy for the kids too.

Absolutely beautiful trail, especially when Mt Stuart pokes it’s head above the trees! The bugs were really bad above the trail split, but got worse as we got into the afternoon. If you’re going to do this one start before 10! Had no difficulty taking my parents up the trail, it seemed much longer than 9 miles though.

Went for an overnight from Rock Island to Trout Lake, camped, then came back down Jack Creek. Great hike! There were many fallen trees to be aware of climbing over (definitely ripped a pair of pants) and the bugs (mosquitos & flies) were really terrible once near any type of water source

Great hike, I did this hike combined with Lake Valhalla (see review there).

Beautiful trail with lots of short branch offs that give amazing views of the water. In a few places along the trail you can actually get in the water. Very easy trail, well worth the trip

Easy hike with lake views and forest trails, good for families with small kids.

Great loop trail, parking lot was a bit busy and the road was a little rough but worth the drive.

This was my first “real” hike ever and the rapid elevation gain was pretty tough at times but having lunch and a quick dip at the lake made it worth it. I think it took us about 3.5 hours up and 3 down. Be sure to bring lots of water, sun protection, and bug spray. The flies, mosquitoes and bees were no joke and honestly I don’t know if the bug spray helped at all.

Trail condition was great! Bring your bug spray though because those will definitely get to you, no matter how fast you're making it up. I'd say this was more of a moderate hike for me, but it was definitely challenging at some times. Lots of wildlife to look at, but unfortunately I didn't see the goats. The lake is perfect for a dip, especially in hot summer weather.

Gorgeous hike. Still a ton of snow patches on the trail on the way in. Took it very slow and made it up to grizzly peak the first night to camp. Super buggy. Pressed on thru more snow and on to pear lake. Spent 3 wonderful nights of solitude at the lake. Very hot weather made for a gracious melt for our hike out. Started at 5:30am to beat the heat and the bugs and made it to the trailhead just before 10:30. Great trip in all, made it without spikes, axe, and brought the pup along as well.

Amazing view! Will do again. The bugs were in full force!

Great hike. I’d rate more of a moderate, but definitely a harder moderate than some. The road up to the trailhead was rough. The hike itself was beautiful, and that view at the end couldn’t be beat. We went swimming in the lake to cool off and it was so refreshing.

Don't let the mileage fool you, the elevation gain makes up for it! So beautiful at the lakes! The mosquitos and flys are INSANE right now, bug spray did nothing to help. I would give this five stars but the trailhead is just on the road and no bathrooms. There are lots of places to easily access Lake Minotaur and cool views of Theseus. Lots of places to explore and spread out and enjoy, only you can't enjoy because of the bugs.

Great day to hike even if a bit hot. Black flys kept us moving. Saw a bear along the way and lots of fish jumping in Eight Mile Lake. We didn't explore around the lake long enough to find a great spot to hangout. If we had found one this would be 5-stars.

Easy and enjoyable :)

The first part of the trail is pretty easy. Once you hit the second bridge you have to billy goat your way to the top using lots of switchbacks

Well, it was a last minute decision to hike this, so, we took the ridiculous decision to Star the hike at 4:00pm, because we had such a pressure to get to the lake, it was very hard trying to keep a consistent pace going up hill, definitely this trail requires to have some condition. Anyway we made it to trailhead on time way before the sunset at 9:10ish, we were lucky!

The “mosquito hour” was crazy and as I read in last reviews, and yes they were violent and didn’t care the repellent.

Well maintained trail. Amazing views! Take good bug spray!

I really hated this hike. Honestly, I’m giving it an extra star only because my husband actually really like it. You’d have to ask him why, I don’t know. The river is pretty, but you are only hiking next to it for part of the hike and can only access it at a few points to cool off. The trail is damn hot. A lot of sun exposure, no breeze, and the ground gets too hot for dog feet in many spots. Bring booties for your dog or be prepared to carry him through these sections. This trail is also very crowded and you hike through a large campground for part of the time which is just so weird. Not for me.

PROs:
1. Payoff - the view at the lake is beautiful and worth it in my opinion (not worth it in my husbands opinion - he hated this hike). The foliage on the way is also quite lovely.
2. Solitude - we hiked on a Saturday morning (8:30 to 10:45) and never saw a single person on the trail or at the trailhead.
3. Beat the heat - trail is shaded almost the entire way and the temp was 10 degrees cooler than in Leavenworth when we were there.

CONs:
1. Two thirds of this hike are a straight up climb. Yes, seriously.
2. The entire trail is swarming with mosquitos. We wore permethrin-treated clothing and picaridin and were still harassed the whole way, so be prepared to fight for your life.
3. There are large sections of this trail that are almost completely overgrown, so if you hate bush-whacking (like my husband) then this may not be the trail for you.

Trail condition was good, and much of the hike was in shaded areas which helped since it was 95 degrees. There were several viewpoints, and spots to stop along the river. There was also a waterfall prior to the last ascent. Payout at the end is a beautiful alpine lake.

The trail is very popular, and heading back down was fairly busy. We left the trailhead at 7am. Would recommend going early to get a parking spot and beat some of the traffic.

Mosquitos and flies were aggressive. Bring plenty of bug spray.

Fun hike. Hard but it's worth it

great hike!!! did in 1 day....

Legitimately my favorite day hike to date.

Trail to the junction is easy on the feet and covered, for the most part. Steeper than the first half, the ascent from the junction offered numerous beautiful views. Kept moving and the mosquitos were never an issue. We were tempted to climb up the pass but opted to save that for another day. The first 2 dirt miles were a bit bumpy. Great hike with a stunning lake at the top. Not hard, moderate.

Great tough trail. Get out early as it will be hot. Take plenty of water as there are little to no water available. I tried to tie 4th of July to Chatter Creek via Icicle Ridge Trail and the trail is completely overgrown. Bushwacked for an hour trying to find any sign of the trail.....no luck. The top part of the Icicle Ridge Trail needs some serious work.

A really great hike, not incredibly steep, but challenging. I made a wrong turn toward a boulder scramble at one point and was lost for quite a while. Make sure to cross the creek at that point, don’t go up the scramble!

My girlfriend and I spent the night at Glacier Peak campground and the next morning went up for a nice easy hike. The water’s color was amazing and surrounded by massive mountains

I love the views and the lake made this trip well worth the drive from Olympia. Beautiful, awesome and just plain perfect.
