The road to the trail head is done but the gate is still closed. The road adds 4 miles round trip to the 12 miles out and back of the trail. As of yesterday there was very minimal snow at the top but a lot of mud. We didn’t need to use our poles or micro spikes but it was good to have them incase. This hike was very long with a lot of switchbacks and became a mental game after a while. There’s no real views on the climb up but the lake views are worth it!

No complaints at all- this hike was short and sweet. Pretty nonstop uphill on the way to the lookout, but the forest you walk through is gorgeous and full of hanging moss. Careful walking, there are many rocks and roots. The view from the top is worth more than the effort to get there! Was a bit chilly but we were fine with long pants and long sleeves, since it was a workout. We were done within two hours.

Hiked this trail in late afternoon. Saw some wildlife and an awesome view at the top of the fire tower. Would definitely recommend this trail to anyone wanting a good leg workout and a sweet view.

snow starts about a mile up the trail. we made it about .3 miles from virgin lake when we lost the trail due to too much snow. Might be done for the season unless you have proper snow gear and really know the trail. I've been up before but did not feel comfortable continuing today unfortunately. According to a ranger I talked to road to the trail head should be open by 10/11. We took mountain bikes today was great on the way down!

Such a beautiful hike! Pretty steep, but well worth the view at the top. It took us about an hour and 40 minutes total when combined with our 30 minute rest at the top, but overall I definitely recommend. A little slippery here and there too:

I hiked this today. A good pick for a rainy day short hike underneath the forest canopy. The view from the lookout....lol not so much on a rainy day. I managed to get a few peek a boo views as it dissipated.

It would have been great to see the views at the end but got lost one two many times and had to head home before I got to the top.

Nice easy hike through the forest with great views from the lookout. Trail is in great shape.

Strava app logged 5.4miles. Not a big deal but used the 3.7 to calculate time and ended up being late to a previously planned event. Trail is fairly easy till you get towards the end. Rocks, roots and staircases. Waterfall is pretty awesome. More people I’ve seen on any trail this year but it was a Saturday afternoon so that’s probably why.

One of the hardest hikes I have ever done but also the best view. Hiking boots are an absolute must. There is already snow up top so your shoes will probably get very wet. Do not attempt if you're not fit as this hike is a very steep climb the whole way. The last 0.3 miles is extremely steep and slippery.

Amazing. got caught in the snowstorm saturday night and camped out up top. it was a winter wonderland in the morning. Pretty strenuous hike and really muddy up top. Road that is closed looks done. will probably be open soon. cannot camp on blanca lake but you can camp on the ridge and before the sign that says day use area. bring water proof shoes or boots in inclement weather. it gets messy.

It was definitely a workout but not too bad. We did 3 hours and 30 mins and spent almost 2 hours around the beautiful lake. The trailhead is reopened, so don’t afraid to drive in. Safe you total 4 miles trip!!

trail is unusably muddy, turned around after probably 200 ft of elevation. wouldn’t have mattered much anyway bc the mountain is now covered in snow which i was not prepared for

The washout on the road to the trailhead looks done but the gate is still closed...maybe they still have some structural work left, but it looks close!
