Hiking

(Not from here, from MI) it had gorgeous views of all the trees and some waterfalls. I am a beginner for sure, and it was steep and in some areas just take your time but well worth it once you get past the steep incline, the waterfalls and back down are the most gorgeous parts. Also great restaurants and ice cream shop in the town below to stop at afterwards. And lots of dogs so very pet friendly!

HikingGreat!

A beautiful trail but be WARNED- it is significantly steeper than it lets on. We walked uphill at a significant grade for about 2 miles. May make sense to do the trail in the opposite direction. Otherwise, a gorgeous trip, well marked, and easy to navigate.

Moderate climb. Steep enough to get a good sweat. Not much in terms of views or anything, but beautiful nature, trees, streams. Plus not highly trafficked

Mt. Ellinor is closed. I think it is because forest Rd 24 to Mt. Elinor is closed.

Great trail! I took my 3.5yr old son on this trail today and he was able to hike the entire 4.5mile trail on his own while carrying his own water and snacks. The incline wasn't too terribly difficult either but maybe our slow paced toddler speed played a factor in that. There are lots of little rest stop areas with a bench or logs/stumps to sit on and take a break along the trail. There are cool bridges to cross with beautiful scenery surrounding it... pictures don't do it justice. The mosquitoes weren't too bad - definitely noticeable, but we managed without bug spray just fine - only a few minor bug bites here and there. This trail is definitely kid friendly if you're able to kid-carry or your kid can walk or a combinationor the two!

Counter clockwise is a little easier! Also wear bug spray.

This was a very enjoyable hike. We added the 1 mile to do the Overlook and it was worth it. The incline was moderate but very doable. Lots of fun things to see along the way.

What I thought would be an easy hike turned into an awesomely moderate to difficult hike. I was hoping for a hike with some good hill climbs, rivers, and many wooden bridges and this trail provides all of that. So many cool streams and wooden bridges w/ benches along the way. Lots of shade and cool little corners to stop and eat lunch by the various streams. We hiked a mile up the mt. eleanor trail to a cool viewpoint. Definitely coming back very soon to hike up mt. eleanor from this trail.

Good trail for breaking in some boots or for a family. Not a ton of scenery but some nice bridges and stops to play in the creek.

Definitely not for beginners. It was a long day - took 6 1/2 with some breaks, and going fairly slow. And everyone gets their very own horsefly to follow them up and down the trail. Bring bug spray and hiking poles!! You’ll need them especially for decent from the summit. The views were incredible!!! It was worth the effort!

Arrived at noon on a Tuesday. Parking lot was about 3/4 full. Trail wasn’t too crowded at all. Went counter clockwise and took the Mt Ellinor split off up to the viewpoint (which the sign says is 1 mile but was more like 1.25). Beautiful view up there and amazing day on a well kept trail.

Easy trail, until you get to the overgrown no trail in sight not real end. I added a screenshot of the part where we could go no further, because we couldn’t find the trail anywhere. Peaceful walk tho. The river was real pretty tho!

WalkingGreat!

Trail is narrow, single file. parking at Staircase was a 45 minute wait. The Ranger directed us to this trail which loops into the Staircase Rapid Loop. Added and easy couple miles to our already planned day. No problem to navigate and we saved all that time that we would have been waiting for parking.

HikingGreat!

This is always a fun loop hike. We usually travel counterclockwise but this time we went clockwise which gives you the elevation gain of the trip in a shorter number of miles. We went to the viewpoint which is always great. One thing that is special about this trail is it is in a constant state of improvement. Every time we go here, something about the trail is better than the last visit. The trail crews are putting in a huge effort here. The Big Creek Campground was full for this trip due to increased usage due to COVID-19 as well as the Beast of Big Creek Trail Race that took place in the morning. Also, with the Hamma Hamma and Lena Creek Campgrounds closed, it is driving more people here. In fact, we ended up camping at the Staircase Campground in the National Park for this trip and got the last available spot. Oddly, there weren’t a lot of hikers here at 1:00 PM despite the very large number of people up around Lake Cushman and, what the locals call, “Party Rock.” It was busier than I have ever seen it and there was a line of cars to get into Staircase. Overall, the area was very crowded but the trail was being underutilized.

I’ve done this trail a few times and I always enjoy it - it’s a pleasant, well maintained trail. If you’re conditioned, this trail is probably fairly easy versus moderate. It’s well marked and the view point off the ellinor connector trail is worth the extra couple of miles (I didn’t make it up there this evening but have been up there recently). You’ll come across a few creeks and bridges and plenty of lush foliage. Like others have said, if you do this counterclockwise, you’ll get some peekaboo views of Mt. Ellinor and the grade on the way down is more gradual.
