nice little hike through the woods and by a beautiful river. stopped when we got to a bunch of trees that were down, but now realizing we could have climbed over and gone further, will go back to check it out. probably wouldn't drive a long distance to do this hike.

The views were 5 Star...

But so many people, I picked up trash left on the trail. I met several people who were left behind by their hiking group. No trail courtesy... Lots of people from out of state/country feels more like a tourist destination. There is nothing wrong with that, just trying to give you an accurate review...So many people both on the trail and at the lookout. About 3 pm there were so many day packs scattered everywhere around the building. Both inside and around the cat walk, hardly a place to sit. My hike was on 10/6/18 and wonder if mid-week would be best. I met several 4 & 5 year olds along the hike, lots of dogs in back packs. It was a lot of fun. If your looking for tranquility, probably NOT your hike....The road up was filled with potholes more than I would expect so take your time.

Tips:
With fewer daylight hours, bring a headlamp if your hiking too late in the day.

Hiking poles are great help. You will appreciate them probably at final 1/2 mile and your hike down.

We started at 9am Saturday morning and reached the top at 11am. We recorded 6.4 totals (definitely not 4.8) but well worth it. Some of the rocks after halfway up were iced over, so just take your time! The view was amazing, but next time we will go for sunrise!

Be aware of potholes, drive carefully and arrive early for a parking spot. Did the hike on Saturday morning and some sections were very icy, I fell even with trekking poles and saw a lady fall hard luckily she was ok. Just be careful and take your time, some scrambling at the top but well worth it. The day was clear and gorgeous views of Baker and Rainier.

Beautiful day on Saturday the 13th on the mountain. At the top there was some ice on boulders that was difficult to navigate, a lot of people fell and one hit his head on the rock pretty hard. Be careful, bring spikes and poles, but definitely check it out!

Nice hike. Great payoff. Tracked it as 5.7 miles not 4.8. 3-4 hours total. Get there early.

Great history good nature walk for kids and animals.

The Lake at the top is worth the climb. Got to trail around 10:20am and parking lot was full. The trail is well maintained but one needs waterproof hiking boots. Down hill was much harder since some parts of the trail have tons of loose rocks.

A fun hike with a decent climb. I started on the trail at 8:45 and ran into 4-5 groups on my way up. I started back at around 10 and the trail had gotten very busy.

Super easy trail, you can shorten the trip by leaving from the picnic area. Plenty of exploring options once you reach the caves and leave the trail, but apparently that's frowned upon due to all of the injuries. In early October you can safely walk up pretty far from the trail and still be well enough away from the caves. Many people were going inside the cave but it really is a bad idea. This trail is well worth the effort. I want to go back in winter. Be aware that the lack of difficulty also means MANY people in troves. Id suggest off season or weekday.

Couple sites on the way to camp over night
Severe pot holes
Not much scenery on the way up
Great trail wide and well maintained

Beautiful! Great hike!

Not the most strenuous hike out there but unbelievable lake and surrounding mountain views!!! Circled around the lake a few times since it was so stunning

We did this hike right after climbing Mt Pilchuck. It was a well marked trail, It was around 11am and there was a good amount of people on the trail. It is a very easy trail for beginners. The views of the lake are really pretty and worth stopping by for a short hike. The road to this parking lot was very bumpy, we had a truck so we were alright.

This was our first hike in Washington during our vacay. We started at around 7:30am, the parking lot was pretty empty. The weather was great and the trail was dry so no chances of slipping on rocks. The trail was surprisingly easy, it might of been because we were really excited to start our week of multiple hikes. We ended up taking only 2 hours out and back to complete the hike. there is a good amount of rock scramble to the top, We stopped at the summit to eat and take photos but it was heavily trafficked going the way down. I suggest going earlier if you want to beat the crowds. I would recommend doing this hike! I also saw doggies the size of our roommates cat complete the hike so its deff dog friendly.

super easy trail with pretty views at the end. Not worth more than 1.9m one way but if you're pressed on time this is good

Amazing.

enjoyable with historic relics from old mines and hotels.

Okay hike. Kinda steep, seemed like it was longer than it was. Not a lot of room to explore at the top, but pretty Mountain View’s. I wouldn’t do this hike again.

Literally one of the most beautiful hikes I’ve ever done. Get there early to beat the crowds! We hiked up past the clouds and had an amazing view of mount baker AND mount rainier. We really lucked out :) the fire lookout is awesome and full of history. The hike itself is not that hard, took a little less than 2 hours to get up to the top.

We always skipped this hike because of how crowded it is, but I am so happy we went this weekend! Save the hike for a rainy day and you’ll have a near-empty trail. The colors at the lake are gorgeous right now. Slow and steady incline with a nearly flat walk around the lake.

Easy hike with great views.

Great trail. Might be rough for small children.

Beautiful area. It took us about 90min to reach the lake. It was rather foggy while we were at the lake, which restricted views but it was still beautiful. In cooler weather, watch out for ice glaze on the raised wooden platforms as you walk around the lake, they were really slippery, but don’t look it.

It took us 3 hr 45 minutes from start to finish, and according to my Fitbit, it was more like 7.5 miles. We arrived at 8:45am on a Saturday, and had no troubles finding parking.

That first leg to the lake was tough at times since it’s pretty steep sometimes, and the return is challenging because navigating the loose rocks while going downhill can be tricky, but I still managed fine and I’m no outdoorsy, hiking master, just an average person of average fitness levels. Though I was absolutely wiped at the end of it. Wear hiking shoes for sure though, you’ll want something with good traction. And ideally water resistant/proof, there was a lot of running water over the trails.

Challenging hike. Beautiful views except when we got to the top it was very cloudy.

Was a bit disappointed this wasn’t as long as I thought it was and more of a walk than a hike. It’s main attraction is the fish ladder. No pass is need to park.

This was a wonderful hike for a beginner hiker like me! The views at the top were gorgeous. Just make sure to bring waterproof shoes.

Arrived about 11:00 on Wednesday, October 3. Only one car in the parking area. Road does have big potholes but my Subaru Forester did fine. It’s a flat road and easy to get around most the holes.

Trail is really wet. Not muddy, just running water in a lot of the area. Waterproof shoes are a plus. It’s a good hike, but nothing particularly amazing about it, looks almost exactly like Lake 22.

Nice lake, super clear and clean, no bugs. Still a little patch of snow at the lake, that was a pleasant surprise.

I had done this in some heavy snow a few years back and I found the hike much prettier then.
