Definitely moderate took about an hour from the parking area to the lake, it was a beautiful day! Highly recommend this hike!

This was a beautiful hike. We went Saturday morning around 10:30/11 a.m. The lot was full but there was parking on the street that wasn’t far. There are a lot of rocks on this trail so be ready. The lake was gorgeous. We put our feet in the water but that was all we could handle as it was very cold.

Great hike

one of my favorite hikes! it's really easy but the waterfalls and caves once you get there are fantastic! what a gem!

So fun! Beautiful lake!

High clearance vehicle required for gravel road or will have to drive very slow. The trail was very nice and lake is beautiful. Careful on the melting snow as to not fall through.

loved the view and historic feel of a piece of Washington's past of the railroad

Super easy. We have had people of all ages and ability complete this with us.

Cloudy so we couldn’t see across the lake but it was a fun hike that wasn’t too easy and wasn’t too hard

Beautiful hike. We were a bit leery about heading out given all the bug reports. We came prepared with Repellent and while we used it, the bugs weren’t that bad. They were mostly at the very top and a bit worse on our way down. I’m glad we didn’t let them keep us away.

The trail is very rocky so I definitely recommend hiking boots. There is also quite a bit of water on the trail in places so plan accordingly with waterproof shoes.

We logged 5.6 miles on my Garmin vs. the 4.x listed on the trail summary. We stuck to the main trail so not sure where the discrepancy is coming from.

Enjoy the hike! Worth it.

The road to the trail head has a lot of pot holes and very rocky.
I highly recommend off road tires and a high clearance vehicle.
Although I did it in my compact Hybrid Honda Insight (Prius), it was slow going and a lot of navigating, I am a pro driver but I still bottomed out twice as there is no way around a few deep pot hole spots.
If you ever wondered what stairclimbing up a dry creek bed was like in the middle of heavily rooted forest.....look no further, you have found it.
The trail gives you a taste of the root steps, stones for stairs, large loose stones path, and the erosion before you even get to the Y.
Once you begin the trek it goes from a forest, over and with water paths, and a lot of fallen trees.
Once past the ridge, it becomes a trek through water and bogs, there are a few snow melts and it is easy to get lost or miss the trail.
the current snow melt along the rock path down hides many voids in rocks n branches, so beware.
The bugs were out in force, and were around me from the parking lot until I returned back.
the path down is just as treacherous, the path is steep and very unsteady footing.
rocks move, roots have soil eroded so it feels as if you are walking up n down ladder steps, and general soul erosion has many dips in the path.
make sure you are sure footed and have proper footwear and gear.
I was in hiking shoes and I almost twisted each ankle from the decent and slick footing.

nice walk to the old kiln and nice good cold swim at the river! but warmer than lake 22

Great quick hike. Absolutely beautiful day and not too many hikers.
Up and down in 2:04.

Hike up was beautiful. Moderate difficulty is a good description. Get there early. We parked at 630am and shared the entire walk up with one other person (and a quick bear sighting). On the way down we passed a ton of people. Parking lot was filled with people circling for spots at 12. Beautiful views at the top!

Love it beautiful views a little bit crowded but is worth the effort

Was an awesome easy hike and amazing views.

Get there early! Beautiful hike. Not over crowded in the early morning. When we left at 1pm, the parking lot was packed! Trail was quite enjoyable.
Also don’t forget bug spray.

super easy. great with the kids

best trail we have hiked this year.

Did this hike yesterday! So enjoyable. I arrived around 7:30, I was one of three cars on the Monday morning. It felt like I had the trail all to myself for most of my ascent up. It was only until the last half of my lake loop and my descent down the trail, did I actually start to see more people and groups.

Seems to get packed quickly the later in the day it gets. I can’t imagine the traffic on a weekend. I was thankful that I wore my most water resistant boots. Some casual stream crossing, water fall gazing, and splashing around was well worth it. The trail was very well maintained and I personally enjoyed the mixture of man made bridges / stairs in contrast to the occasional array of rocks and stones.

Great hike! Brought a couple of dogs and they loved it. Especially the extra hike to the water. It was pretty easy overall. Some parts are pretty narrow and we got eaten by mosquitos. But it was very pretty!

Made it all the way up to Bald Mountain amazing view of spada lake. still quite a bit of snow in places and and saw several fresh "Cougar" tracks noticed on the way back down

Hiked today and it was gorgeous. I got there at about 7-7:30 and there weren't too many people there, but tons of people got there around 9 or so. Multiple waterfalls and incredible lake at the top. Definitely recommend hiking shoes if you have them. There's lots of walking on rocks, wet rocks, and over creeks. Also, don't forget to pay for parking or have a pass.

first time with the family best hike this far. beautiful scenery and fresh air. dog friendly easy hike.

This hike did not disappoint. The 40 switchbacks were strenuous but worth it. The path is well maintained and I did not experience a lot of bugs, only one mosquito bite and I did not need to use bug spray. Bring your suite, the water in both lakes is perfect for swimming!

great workout and absolutely fantastic views

Arrived around 8am Sat morning and snagged the last parking spot. Small lot for such a popular spot. Apparently there's parking in the campground across the way. There are bathrooms at the TH. So just FYI...I found this a moderate ++ hike for me...I'm 70. Took me some time to get thru the rocky section mostly going up but coming down was really hard on my knees. Lots of tree roots and wet rock surfaces to maneuver. OK...enough. The trees are wonderful. awesome views, the smell of the forest, the waterfalls and the lake at the top with some lingering snow on the slope. All beautiful!!

Trail is good, but watch out for pothole "minefield" on the way up/down the 1.5 mi Mt Pilchuck Access Road to the trailhead! Go very slowly, and even then it's impossible to avoid the masses of scattered potholes. Pray for your car.

Unbelievable views! We went early and didn’t run into too many people. I really didn’t think the snow was too terrible to cross over but the bugs were insane! Definitely will be prepared for those next time. I didn’t bring my dog and glad about that. The rocks at the top are not dog friendly :)
