There is still snow at the top but you shouldn’t need spikes. We didn’t hike around the lake because of the snow. The trail is wet, lots of muddy spots but if you have waterproof shoes you’ll be fine. Really pretty view with all the waterfalls from the snow melt.

The peak is not Herman's Peak, but Hermans Peak. It was named after Emery J. Hermans, the surveyor. Look it up.

It was a great hike but our Van along with another car had their windows smashed today. They took a purse that was hidden and then went to the hotel our family was staying at and stole all of their belongings there too. I know it can happen anywhere but just wanted to warn you to not keep valuables in the cars here

Short hike with a fabulous view for the minimal work involved. Did it May 19, accessible and no snow anywhere. Didn’t see a single soul.

Beautiful views and worth the easy hike!

This was the best and worst hike ever. It was far, long, and tiring. The end view of the lake was breath taking and absolutely worth it. Be prepared to literally climb a mountain to get to the peak, the switch backs get very frustrating because there are sooooo many. The actual trail head for this is 4 miles from where you park your car. There are also signs warning you about potential bears, although we didn’t see any or see any tracks. There still is some snow up at the peak (may 20), so be careful walking on it so you don’t fall through. I definitely suggest this hike to someone who’s fit and experienced.

an amazing hike. It's only me and my girlfriends second time ever hiking so it felt long for us but it was beautiful the whole time. Also this is a trail that any experience level should be able to do!

I found this hike challenging with the different terrains, the talus, and then slippery snow at the end to the lake. I'm new to hiking and it was more difficult than I expected but I think it will be easier in the summer and plan to Hike it again when I can see the lake and walk around it without snow! Definitely need hiking shoes to safely hike this trail.

It is beautiful!! Greats views .

This was a beautiful hike! Just did it today may 20th! Got to the top in 50 min not too difficult just a good slow incline the whole way! Snowy the last bit but i had sneakers and wasn’t ever a problem! Will definitely do again when the snow is gone around the lake!

A wonderful hike! I got there at 8:30 and there were only a few spots left in the parking lot. It is so worth getting there early because on the way up, I mostly had the trail to myself. The waterfalls are wonderful, there's a piece where the trees clear and you get an amazing view of the surrounding mountains, and of course the lake at the top is gorgeous. Still a little snowy so you can't get around the lake too much but still a great place to sit for a while and just enjoy the view. It's a steep hike so get ready for it to kick your booty!!

Fun hike. Lots of people so go early.

Beautiful views of Mother Nature.

Went on a whim yesterday. Didn’t plan the trip so I was wearing flip flops. Road is no longer blocked and although there are a couple parts with snow on the trail I had no problem making it to the caves in my trusty flip flops!

This was a great hike! Our 7 year old loved it as well.

Awesome hike

Beginning of May hike, and it was a great hike! Parking lot is small, so getting to the trailhead early is nice. Right now there is still a little snow on the last part of the hike to see the lake, but manageable. I’ll do it again in summer to see the lake not snowy!

Fun little afternoon hike. Great views.

This hike has everything - waterfalls, mountain views, snow, and an incredible lake view at the top. It is difficult because of the various types of terrain. You hike through rivers, lots of big rocks, and the last part of the hike is completely covered in snow. Highly recommend waterproof shoes with good traction and/or snow cleats that you can pack with you and put on for the last bit of the hike. It's very slippery, and easy to fall through patches of snow and find yourself knee deep. The view at the top is totally worth it!!

The pictures made it look cooler than we thought it was. But it's a nice 3 hour hike if you keep moving.

This hike was completed Aug 2017.

You’ll have to walk 6 miles to trailhead from Heather Lake TH due to road blockage. It was too much for me to take on the additional trek and turned around at 4 miles. Some snow at mile 4 on the road. There were some epic waterfalls along the way though. I’ll have to come a little later in the year when they open the access road back up.

Trail is currently closed. We ended up doing Heather Lake instead.

great view and enjoyable dog walk.

was great for a first time hiker, beautiful and not to elevated.

Great hike. Will get there very early next time to avoid the later hikers going up on the way back. Good trail for easing back into hiking season and training my 6 month old puppy on trail etiquette. (wish more dog owners would do some training).

Beautiful trail. Couldn’t hike around the lake entirely because of the snow and being unable to find the trail. I fell in a stream about 1/4 the way around the lake in knee deep snow, so decided to turn back. Regardless, this was a really fun hike! Be prepared to have wet feet since it is a muddy trail and you walk through some streams and a waterfall.

This trail was a little difficult for me, having COPD, but I managed to only stop three times briefly. I was definitely glad to reach the frozen lake and was able to cool off and catch my breath before beginning our descent. We will definitely do this one again.
