I love that you can hear the waterfall while going up this hike. View is beautiful at the top. Definitely need waterproof hiking boots! Lots of water and mud. Road has huge pot holes driving up but everyone seems to make it!

Left at 10:30 and loved it. Trail is a little overgrown but nothing that should seriously debilitate your enjoyment. The mud was pretty bad after the kilm and trekking poles would really help navigating those areas if you have some. Some really nice forest and river viewing throughout the whole trail and going down to the river bank gives the hike a sense of conclusion. Saw some deers on the opposite side of the river so keep a good look out.

Followed the service access road to Monte Cristo. Entrance is approx 0.75mi past Monte Cristo TH. Parked near gate, moderate climb and rolling hills to connect to the easier and flatter Monte Cristo trail. not a challenging ride but fun and passible by our 12 year old son.

Definitely a leg burner! The first mile or so is a steady incline with a fairly wide path. At around .95 is where things narrow and at times it feels like hiking through a creek. Beautiful forest views on the way up opening to a gorgeous lake. Fairly busy when we went on a Friday afternoon but someone said the Lake 22 trailhead was closed so that probably explains why. Trail etiquette was not great on this trail and maybe 60% of people were wearing masks. Spent a lot of time to the side facing away from the trail. Also, the road is pretty gnarly - comparable to Summit Lake in terms of potholes. High clearance vehicle suggested. Our corgi puppy enjoyed the hike from his backpack but we saw plenty of other dogs walking it.

Trails is muddy, lots of rocks and roots. Can be steep somewhere. But the view is amazing! We were there on July 3rd, and there were a lot of people. It was raining and the lake was foggy. But looks sooo good!! Be aware when you are driving to the trail. There are a lot of pits on the road with rain water in it, so you don’t know how deep they are. But there were many sedans which made this to the parking. So just be aware :) And there is no fee right now!

Lot of potholes on the approach to the parking lot. Recommend 4WD and taller vehicles to avoid damage. Full lot but not as busy as Lake 22 appeared to be. Trail itself was a good challenge with many exposed rocks, tree roots, and creeks. Felt like an extended obstacle course in places, especially with all the rain and slick surfaces. Nonetheless enjoyed it and would recommend to more intermediate hikers, at least until it dries out. The lake was beautiful with the best views coming from the opposite side of the trail. That side has a huge boulder field which was fun to climb and allowed for even better views. Many picturesque waterfalls cascading down the cliffs and pretty greenery! Will return someday

First off the road getting up is very rough. Big pot holes and would only recommend if you feel comfortable that you and your vehicle can make it up. Also the trail was not too busy and most everyone was wearing a mask but I’m sure on a weekend this trail is very busy. The hike up to Heather Lake is fairly rocky and rutted out. Once up to the lake we found a nice spot in the other side over looking all the waterfalls and the lake. Very pretty.

absolutely beautiful! easy hike up to a lake. lots of roots and rocks to step up but overall a well-marked and maintained trail. it’s 1.9 mi to the lake but definitely do the extra 0.6 mi around the lake, it’s so worth it!

Arrived about 130pm on a Thursday, parking lot was maybe half full. I would say this trail is about 80% easy and 20% moderate. Perfect for kids & family. After the kiln, the trail gets pretty muddy and would be difficult to pass in sneakers. Before the kiln, totally fine in sneakers. Low traffic today. My watch clocked it at 7.5miles with the river loop added in. I would definitely recommend adding the river loop, that's the prettiest part of the whole trail.

Went on 6/29/20- Such a stunning lake, truly breathtaking! I took my dachshund with me, he made it the entire way there and back. It is rocky in places and water runs over the trail in places so make sure you wear adequate shoes. I’m pretty short and some of the steps were pretty tall for me so just keep that in mind if you’re part of the short gang. I put bug spray on before heading down the trail and had to put more on when I got to the lake. The road to the trailhead was pretty rough on my small car, I will definitely be taking a higher clearance vehicle next time, the potholes are gnarly. Overall, I would definitely go again, it was well worth it, absolutely amazing!

The hike itself seemed easy, wasn’t too difficult. The ground is very muddy, so prepare to get your shoes dirty. I went on this hike when it was a cloudy day, but the view up above was still beautiful. The water is so clear, I’ll have to come back when it get hotter to swim there.

Road is fine; 10 miles of paved out of Sultan, 10 miles of dirt with minor potholes. 3 cars at trailhead at 8:30. Met 11 other hikers total. Half had masks and used them, the others were good about distancing. The 'main' stream crossing about 1/2 mile in may be difficult for some people. There is an alternate that some may like better about 50 feet upstream. Once you hit the climb the trail is frequently mud and running water. Serious mud, lots of water running right down the trail. There were a couple downed trees and an area where the trail was messed up due to erosion. 40* on top and low overcast so bug were not a problem since we were so bundled up, and they were freezing along with us. No vista views. Light on the lakes was kind of flat.

This was a great family hike!! We tracked about 7 miles on my watch, with doing the shore loop and old railroad bridge. For the most part pretty flat, but was very muddy in some areas. It rained so we also had lots of little pools to walk through. There were lots of signs that were cool, and the Kiln itself was cool to explore. The shore loop has a little trail that you can take down to the rocks, but the river is high right now so there isn’t a sandy spot to sit. Some parts were a tad overgrown but it was still manageable. We got there at 930am and was one of 3 cars in the parking lot, but passed many people on our way back.
