Hike Date: March-15-2020 Experience: Decided to get outside today but most peaks still had to much snow. Went and walked around the bare lake bed was relaxing and very pretty. Very easy nature walk for all. Equipment: Very muddy when it warms up in the lake bed make sure to have waterproof boots. No poles or spikes needed if you are experienced on rock with boots. Conditions: Very windy make sure to wear a wind breaker and extra jacket with a beanie. Chilly day but when the sun hits you and the wind calms it feels great.

Followed the directions that is on the app and took us to the wrong parking lot. Lucky there was an off trail leading to the main area. There are multiple trails in this area but they all loop together. Over had a lot of fun I’m the snow

Gentle hike along the American River. Minimal elevation and suitable for all skill levels. Good for both summer hikes and winter snowshoeing. Sno-Park Pass is required in winter and a Northwest Forest Pass is needed the remainder of the year.

Easy beginner trail. We wanted to do the guided ranger snowshoe but were late. Considering there wasn’t a new snow we opted to just go for it in our hiking shoes. The snow is well compacted. The trail is well marked and good views of the lake.

It is VERY hard to find this trailhead. It is not well-marked. We ended up hiking up a road for almost 2 miles trying to find the trailhead and finally found someone and asked. The trail is not super well-kept, and the parking is limited. The view and lake is worth seeing, but definitely pay hard attention to trail markers.

Not the best hike has some places with scenic views but mostly just in the forest walking on service roads.

The unpaved portion of road isn’t horrible, but there are some very big, deep potholes in some places, especially after turning up FR4934. Low clearance vehicles should go slow, pay close attention, and should be mostly ok. FR4934 isn’t marked, but Google Maps navigated me there fine. Once parked, continue walking up FR4934 for a short bit, then veer left up another old road for awhile before finding a trail on the left marked by a sign with a hiker icon. When the trail joins for Lake Lillian, there is a sign to head right towards Margaret Lake. The switchbacks take you down in elevation and eventually there is compact snow and ice on the trail and then eventually a lot of snow all around, I was surprised by this. Highly recommend micro spikes! The lake was beautiful today! Perfectly still with a gorgeous reflection. Had the whole trail and lake to myself, saw no one else all day. Great hike!

This was the most boring and wasted hike I ever did. Not a trail, it’s a dirt/gravel road that cars obviously drive in as one suv passed us on the way back. Wish I had a bag for all the empty beer cans and food trash, and there’s random car parts like someone’s entire back seat. No real views aside from the occasional mountain but it sucked. I love hiking and do 8-10 miles every Saturday and I would not recommend this boring monotonous trail.

What a boring and uneventful hike. No views, the road is clearly for cars ( when of rich went by while we were hiking) and I fail to see why this was rated a 4. E did 4 and 1/2 miles before we decided to throw in the towel. No with the trip

Beautiful hike and there’s lot of snow right now! Be aware that the first half of the trail is completely up hill which can be strenuous and the road in is pretty rough. Spikes aren’t necessary but I highly recommend hiking poles they were a huge help for balance up/down steep snowy hills! Was pretty foggy and cold today but the lake was still beautiful, definitely going to go back in the spring.

recommend to follow the app map, missed and few of the turn offs.

hiked to the cabin northbound from the horse camp

The hike was great. Just after mirror lake there is a beautiful waterfall. However as you continue down the trail it becomes very over grown. Nothing hard to pass but branches coming at you from both sides. It makes it hard to see the trail at times.

Great trail! Very easy and accessible at the start. With the snow and mud, the last mile and a half is a challenge. The view at the top by the lake (while absolutely freezing) was well worth the scramble up.
