I’m not sure if I completely agree with this being super kid friendly- it was a LOT of fairly steep switchbacks on the way up. We had two five year olds with us, and they made it, but barely. The lake is cute, the trail is well-maintained.

my favorite

This hike was great! If you are new to the PNW, then this can seem more of a hard hike than moderate. take water and a snack. I am in my 50's and moved here from Oklahoma. It was super hard on my first time but today was 4 months later and my 3rd time, much easier.
take hiking poles if you have bad knees or ankles.

Great hike to take with teens and tweens. Take the time to go to the overlook and take in the view of the San Juan Islands!

Many reviews mention the switchbacks, but they aren't difficult! the trails are relatively wide to allow others to pass while you take a quick breather, and there are even a few benches along the way. The lake is small and quiet with many places to sit down and have lunch. Very peaceful and pretty!

Great hike, minimal traffic and some great views. Good trail to prepare for harder ones!

Great hike through the trees! Perfect family hike.

Nice fairly easy hike with few people.

Quick and easy hike. I think it took me about half an hour to do the loop and that was with stopping to take pictures. Most of the elevation is at the very beginning of the hike. Nice and quiet during the morning.

Was not expecting the steady steep incline on the way up but our 9 year old daughter had no problem with the hike up to and around Fragrance Lake and back down with a stop at the viewpoint.

This is an incredibly pleasant evening walk through a great example of the Pacific Northwest Rain Forest. Well shaded with enough easy terrain and ponds to keep it interesting.

Road not open yet to cars past upper parking lot, (about last 3 miles) lake Ann trailhead still had decent amount of snow.
Bagley Lakes starting to become visible.

Forest stretches and beautiful views! You have to walk on a railroad track or right next to it on the narrow bar between the bay and the lagoon for at least a half mile. Easy to hear and see if a train is coming. You can only do this as a loop hike as pictured if the tide is out. It wasn't when we hiked so we had to walk back across the train tracks. It's possible you could find another way back after the tracks through a short tunnel on some nearby streets.

Challenging but beautiful views!

Great hike! Nice switch backs on the way up. When you get to the lake I recommend doing the loop ,75 mile around, it’s beautiful with large rocks and I thought it was one of the best parts. If you can’t get parking at the trail head you can park at the state park and walk 5 minutes up. Will definitely do this trail again!

Fun, easy hike. Saw beavers in the pond!

Good trail conditions. Get there early for parking. BUGGY, so bring repellent. We started at 0730, so it was quiet and we were alone most of the way. No great views of Lost Lake, because it's wooded right to the edge. But the spur to Fragrance Lake is worth it, and you can even swim.

Quick hike with a lookout or all the way to the lake. Great one for your first moderate hike.

Fun trail. Beautiful. Part fire road part trail. Pickaboo views of Samish Bay. Really enjoyed, but weather was sunny n warm when we went. Stop by the Oyster Bar for nice post hike meal. About 3 miles south on Chuckanut.

Started at the Cyrus Gates Trailhead and connected through Rock Trail. Very narrow and muddy going down towards the lake, and if you’re not looking it’s easy to lose the trail. I did this and had to back track. The lake itself is unremarkable. GPS put me at 7.9 miles.

Enjoyed hiking through this preserve today. Well maintained, open parking area with bathroom facilities. Great for all skill levels. Some signage, around the loop, follow arrows painted to stay on the right trail.

Well maintained trail that pretty much is up switchbacks to the lake. Starts off up right away and then after the lookout is uphill. Lake is very pretty and a great place for lunch. The backside is beautiful with boulder towering over your head. Lots of people and dogs on a Saturday.

This hike is super peaceful and a great little workout. The only thing to note - around 12 pm, the hike gets significantly more crowded with people and (lots of) dogs. We got there around 10 am on a Saturday and it was a wonderful, quiet hike up to the lake.

I love this trail and have hiked it in all seasons! It can showcase any weather! In the rain the moss hangs heavy and intensely green! In snow, it’s a wonderland, and in spring it’s perfect to begin your hiking season with its gentle ups and downs! In summer, it will keep you cool even in intense heat!

I didn't realize it was uphill all the way. Slow and steady but made it. The lake at the end is so beautiful.

During the hike it was a bit snowy and slippery but beautiful. Would do it again.
