Great place to visit. Take your time to enjoy the sights.

Did this with the family. It was busy, as is to be expected. It was cloudy and there was a cooling breeze. Got off course a couple of times to check things out and play the tourist.

After all the great reviews, I was disappointed in this one for road biking. This trail is in lackluster and rough condition. There are numerous areas where tree roots have buckled the asphalt, and there is one deep depression that would wreak havoc on a road bike tire. I would recommend at least 32 mm wide tires. That puts you in hybrid territory, and one could make the argument a mountain bike would be even better. The trail is one-bike wide in several spots, and there are a few tunnels, bridges and other segments for which one needs to dismount to navigate safely. This is especially true since the trail was heavily trafficked on this Saturday. Compared to trails farther outside the city, pedestrians walk two or three wide here, and some seem to hesitate--or simply refuse--to yield. FYI, parking at the trailhead is about $2.50/hr.--if you can find a space. I guess this is a nice escape for some who live in the city, but it's not worth the trip from elsewhere.

City trails do not get any better than this! I went off route several times just to see more of the amazing memorials that were not along the prescribed path. I started trail running but as usual, I stopped in many places to show respect for the sites, to sit and reflect, and to take in all the beauty of this whole area. Not only would I do this trail again, but I run this trail every single time I can when I’m in the DC area. However, I do like the “National Mall” trail more than this one… It’s very similar but goes around to more of the sites that I love.

A beautiful but all too brief trail

Shorter than the full National Monuments route as it skips the Jefferson Memorial, but still longer than you might expect. Bring hat, sunglasses, and plenty of water because the National Mall is huge!

Solitary run. Slow. Sore knees & hip

Love the fact that you can bike up to the peer.

Great trail! I just got in 7 miles on it and really enjoyed it.

Definately worth the trip. Much more crowded than I would prefer, but what I expected.

Every time I visit DC, I always find something new while walking around the National Mall.

Heh... it said “moderately trafficked.” I’d say more “extra heavily trafficked!” Good trail considering that it has many Monuments that the US takes pride in. Good that it’s free. Except for tickets to the top of the monument. Those are HARD to get.

Biking this trail is great. Very diverse scenery throughout the duration of the ride. A nice mix of elevation changes and flat stretches.

Nice neighborhood walk with historic signposts. Nice area, safe, and surrounded by restaurants and bars. The last stop is by the Eastern Market, which is an open air Market with crafts, fruit and vegetables, and food trucks on weekends, and has a permanent indoor market all week long.

well marked, paved trail with some nice views of D.C. Plenty of options along the trail for detours (e.g. Four Mile Run). Good for running/biking/walkers. Minor elevation changes make this a good trail for beginners. Use regular trainers/sneakers on this route.

The National Mall is always an inspiring destination with all its beautiful monuments and visitors from all over the world. It's a deceptively long walk (unless it's summertime with its infamous D.C. heat) as you often don't realize that you've walked miles just going from sight to sight. Fantastic way to share in America's history and also get some exercise!

Good for running, but views aren't anything special (there are better trails in the park) and crowded.
