Went on a Monday morning during COVID season at 8:30. Highly recommend before that hot sun comes out and little shade! Super empty walking paths to enjoy the monuments.

Parts of this route are walking through the woods to connect to the next real trail, but it was easy enough to figure out.

I love this! It was a bucket list item for sure and finally in my thirties , I made it.

Please give a full 5 days to take in all of the buildings and museums! This is a wonderful place to take the family and children! Many, many things to see and do!

Washington is such a wonderful place. I love all of the massive government buildings.

Beautiful stroll through INNER CITY DC

Very nice trail to tour the memorials.

Such a beautiful walk. Really hard to stick to the trail since there is so much to see.

Great walk through the Navy Yard area. I modified the trail a bit to catch some monuments I wanted to see. Really enjoyed the sign markers with history of the area.

Not that exciting of a hike, but great for trail running

on bicycle, or foot, is the best way to enjoy the DC area and monuments.

it is a nice route with all the major attractions. There was a bathroom near Franklin Roosevelt statutes. very little street traffic. Flat urban hike. lots of tourists.

Great place to visit. Take your time to enjoy the sights.

Magnificent walk through many beautiful and historic sites.

It’s one of those things you have to do at some point - and I recommend doing it either early or late to avoid as many tourists as possible. Keep in mind, if you’re visiting in summer, it is HOT and HUMID and there’s not a ton of shade when you’re out in the middle of the Mall. It’s also a much longer walk than it looks like it is on the map (at least, it can feel that way). If you want to do the whole walk in one go, the Smithsonian museums afford a break from the heat, opportunities to use the restroom, and places to grab a quick bite and drink (and, you know, culture and interesting exhibits but I’m focusing on the walk). The larger monuments like the Lincoln, Jefferson, and FDR also have small exhibit spaces, gift shops, and bathrooms but can sometimes be hard for tourists to find - generally look for alcoves and old copper doors. They’re usually unassuming off-season and are closed but as far as I know are open late (I see joggers stop for a quick bathroom break in them after dark frequently). Easily the highlights of this walk are the memorials around the Tidal Basin, which is a beautiful place to be - especially when the cherry blossoms are in bloom, of course! EDIT: Oh, I didn’t even realize the trail went all the way to the Capitol! Also has a visitors center if you need to use the restroom (and a cafeteria - no, not the cafeteria your representatives eat in, unfortunately, unless you’re a very special guest, heh). Not worth the lines and security unless you’re going to enjoy a tour - and see if you can get a House or Senate viewing gallery pass from your representative or senators (you get to pick it up directly from their office and might catch a glimpse of some people you see on the news in the elevator) and even if it’s a slow day (or a slooooooow day) it’s still civically interesting to see your legislature in action... or at least, what congress considers action, haha).

Biked the Mouth Vernon trail from Old Town Alexandria to Roosevelt Island. So, so, so many people do all sorts of activities...very important to pay attention for cyclists going way too fast and walkers going way too slow. The disgusting portable toilets at Gravely Point are a plus! Wish the trail had more water stops; there is a fountain at Roosevelt Island. This path was around 16 miles. Highly recommend!

Great place for a nice walk (wear good walking shoes), very busy - a lot of people and tour buses, bring hat, sunglasses, and water, Lots of vendor for water and food. Lots to see and enjoy.

Did this with the family. It was busy, as is to be expected. It was cloudy and there was a cooling breeze. Got off course a couple of times to check things out and play the tourist.

City trails do not get any better than this! I went off route several times just to see more of the amazing memorials that were not along the prescribed path. I started trail running but as usual, I stopped in many places to show respect for the sites, to sit and reflect, and to take in all the beauty of this whole area. Not only would I do this trail again, but I run this trail every single time I can when I’m in the DC area. However, I do like the “National Mall” trail more than this one… It’s very similar but goes around to more of the sites that I love.
