Do not bicycle on this road!!!! We had bicycled from Charles City Courthouse to James Town one day and a couple told us if we took the Colonial Parkway we could go all the way to York Town. So we did and it was extremly dangerous and frightining. The Colonial Parkway pretty much turns into a highway cars are really close going really fast!!! Then there is a tunnel with no shoulders which you are not allowed to bicycle through because it is pitch black and there is no shoulders. So to get around the tunnel you have to get through Colonial Williamsburg which both my dad and I who had gotten seperated both got lost in. Stick with The VA CapitL Trail, it is my favorite trail in VA, not many road crossings, not many people and beaufiful surroundings!!!

This is the nice outdoor stroll especially if you like historical landmarks that you'll be able to pass and/or stop at.

Enjoyable walk. More of a walk through a storefront community on the water than your typical outdoor hiking trail though.

Not many earthworks sights to see along this trail but still a descent part of a hiking trip.

good trail to work on endurance base and cadence. had to cut short because of time.

I was very conflicted about how to rate this one. The map is very wrong. It has you walking into heavily wooded areas where there aren't any trails. I've lived in this area most my life so I've been here a time or two. It's very easy to make your own map/route so that's exactly what I did. The areas beautiful with a lot of history to see. Plus, it's by the beach. I parked by the beach so I could get the best of both worlds. So I don't recommend using this map but I highly recommend visiting the area.

Enjoyed the scenery at this location, beautiful, boats in the water, sandy beach. It was a slight drizzle so not too many here.

I was a expecting to walk-run a marathon on a trail starting from Yorktown park. Instead it was all road. That was fine but a little dangerous. 99% of drivers went out of their way to move a little extra toward the center of the road when approaching. It would be nice if there was a nice distinguishable line a foot or two for trekkers because the views the river, the woods and rolling hills gives you everything you want. Plus exactly 13.1 miles from Yorktown in the turnaround you find yourself right in the midst of Colonial Williamsburg, costumed employees in tricornered hats, reconstructed tavern and courthouse, horse poop smell, etc.

This trail was nicely wooded once I got away from the road. The water was beautiful! It was very condensed and windy, though. While it might take 10 steps to go directly from point A to point B, I was going around 4 curves and taking about 50 steps before I got there. I passed other walkers, only to see them 2-3 more times in the same 5 min span.

I really enjoyed this trail. It got out in the woods more than many in the park. This is one of my favorites for a close by trail.

This is a nice trail running from the bike-way back to White Oak. It is more secluded than some of the trails in the park.

If you are using your GPS to get here, you will probably need to put Newport News Park as your destination.

I found this place very hard to navigate. There were signs posted, but the trails were close to overgrown in some spots and very hard to find when you had to cross a service road. From the trails that I was able to find, it was fairly flat with multiple switchbacks. Seems like a perfect place to take your kids if they are ready to learn.

Not a whole lot to it. Most of the trails are dirt roads you could drive a car on. I was hiking but I did not see any difficult parts for a bike.

Hardwood Mills is very flat, and in my opinion a beginner trail for MTB throughout with many straight runs allowing for speed-play. There are two courses here. There is a beginner course and another trail section labeled advanced.... But the advanced sign should be removed and a 'beginner' marker should be added in its place; nothing advanced about Hardwood Mills.

I will say, however, that this course is an outstanding run for children and other beginners who are starting MTB. The forest is nice and there is a pier for fishing. This trail is a good one to take your girlfriend or anyone else who's a less than entry level rider, because of the flat terrain and minimal yet shallow climbs.

This is a very scenic drive through history. From the Yorktown battlefield to historic Jamestown, this is a beautiful drive. During the 22 mile drive you will follow the York River for about 5 miles, pass Colonial Williamsburg and follow the James River for about 5 miles.

I started the trail at the Denbigh blvd side of the expert trail and then finished out on the advanced. Today was my first time riding at Harwood's Mill after not trail riding in over 8 years. I 'm going to say that the where the expert trail is a lot more narrow than the advanced trail, the advanced trail has longer and steeper climbs, MUCH better obstacles, and a much more enjoyable ride. I will agree with the other review of this place saying that the roots are kinda out of control but for riding in the woods I guess it comes with the territory. If you can get over the bUmPy ride you are sure to have a good time. This is going to be a trail that I will continue to ride seeing as how I can ride there from my house with a 8.5 round trip ride. Great day and I suggest everyone give it a shot.
