lovely, well maintained and shaded trail. At almost 66, over-weight and out of shape, I completed the hike. I haven't ever hiked let alone "climbed a mountain" and it definitely wasn't a "cake walk" by any means, but I did it so I imagine anyone could. The view is impressively breath-taking and well worth the hike. Parked at the trail head parking lot and the AllTrails app clocked it at 1 & 3/10ths mile. The last 10th mile was a bit steep, but worth it.

This is one of my favorite trails that I’ve ever hiked. Short, but stunning views.

loved the veiw at the summit

Loved this hike! a must do if you're in the area.
if you're using Google maps to get here, don't use buffalo mountain, as that will take you through a farmers property. use buffalo mountain parking lot instead. this lot can only fit about 10-15 cars. I went on a Wednesday at 3pm and it was empty. the drive up to here is a rocky road with a lock of potholes so I would suggest an SUV and to go slow because some of it is very narrow and cannot fit 2 cars.
the trail has about 4 switchbacks up the mountains. 2 miles each way. it's a gradual up. not too many rocks to climb over (and certainly not a rock scramble, contrary to another person's review). it was a moderate incline. it took us 30 min to get up.
views are gorgeous. it really is 360 degree views. they have a cute bench at the top for pictures
I think I'll bring a picnic for the top next time.

Only 1 mile each way when you park at the trailhead instead of the gravel road. There’s a parking lot there so don’t be shy about driving up. The trail is quick and rewards you with an almost-360 view.

Great trail. Not too crowded. Be sure to apply your deet bug repellent before your hike. The trail is narrow with a lot of tall grasses ....tick favorite..?brushing your legs. Amazing views reward your efforts!

Steep but a great hike! Pretty easy

Beautiful view once you reach the summit! Nicely shaded hike.

Short hike with beautiful views at the summit.

Buffalo Mtn. Is approx. a 1 mile hike from the parking lot. It's a little hard to find the first time but well worth the effort. It has an elevation gain of close to 600 ft. in that mile but is switched-backed so as not to be too strenuous. At the top there is an almost 360 degree view and looking southward you can see Pilot Mtn. NC. on most days. With a good set of binoculars the skyline of Winston Salem can just be made out a little distance to the East of Pilot Mtn. (look at the base of the sloping mountain range). Be aware that the wind blows often at the top so take a sweater just in case.

Well worth the hike to the top. Note...AllTrails shows hike from the bottoms of the road, making it a 4 mile hike. You can actually keep driving up the gravel road until you reach the parking lot capable of parking about 14 cars. From there the hike is only 1.5 miles approx to the top or park at bottom of gravel road for the full 4 mike hike. Well worth it either way. Some the most beautiful 360 views of unspoiled farmland, meadows and Appalachian mountains. Very peaceful and relaxing.

A great hike that takes around 30 minutes to reach the summit. The last 1/4 mile is steep but that is the most challenging part. Views at the top are the best around!

Great day for a hike. Buffalo Mountain Trail is well blazed (red) and well maintained. Views from the top were not the best due to overcast skies and some fog. This was my first time here, I will look forward to bringing some of my children and grandchildren next time. A good day, Life is Good.

The drive to the trail start was a little confusing. I wasn’t expecting a gravel road only big enough for one car but do follow the signs through the little, green (broken looking) gate and keep going until you see the parking area.
Was nervous hearing it was 4+ mile hike, but started the trail anyway. My gps tracked it from trail start to summit clearing at 1.07 mi. Not too strenuous but definitely a workout. Views are 360 and well worth it! I plan on going back soon on a clearer day.

was a steady climb to the top about a mile up and a mile back wasn't as bad as i thought it would be , the view up there was fantastic , I don't know how far but you can easily see pilot mountain and hanging rock among many others

Awesome hike with spectacular 360 views. Not steep, and goes by quickly. Recommend in off season.

Absolutely spectacular views! In my book, it gives McAfee Knob a run for its money. Once you reach the top, you are greeted with a 360 view of the surrounding area. As others have mentioned, the actual walking trail is only about 1 mile. Once you reach a stump with the word "Buffalo" painted on it, I would say you're about half way. The trail has red markings and are frequent. The last 1/4-1/2 mile to the top does get fairly steep, but don't stop!! The views are well worth it.

Beautiful views and super easy hike. Definitely shorter than 4.2 miles, maybe less than half. Very enjoyable nonetheless!!

This is an awesome hike that provides amazing panoramic views of the valley below at the end. The trail is actually only about 1 mile, the first mile can be driven and then there is a small parking area at the trailhead. It is relatively steep but is steady and not too strenuous, especially for those who have a bit more experience hiking. Even so, there were several children on the trail, so anyone can do it at their own pace, especially because it is a short distance. Coming back is very easy as it is all downhill.

360 view is great. My favorite view in the 540. Trail is pretty easy as well!

Really great open expansive views of the beautiful rolling mountains and valleys around the area. Lots of room at the top to find a spot to lunch or lay or hangout Was pretty quiet the whole way didn't see too many people. The incline is steady on the way to the top but wasn't bad at all and definitely worth the view.

Fun trail. Pleasant hike throughout, and great view of the waterfall with a nice viewing platform and bench.

This trail was a great way to end our family trip. Had three kids and two dogs and we all had no problem doing it. It's basically a shortish uphill climb to the top where you will find some of the best views around from multiple angles! Seriously, the view is breathtaking. I have a manual shift Mazda 3 and the drive to the starting point was a bit harrowing. Be aware that the road has lots of potholes on the way up. Otherwise, fantastic hike!

Amazing views...

This trail would be perfect for a family hiking trip! The winding path to the top is very smooth with a few rocks every now and then. After about a mile you will reach the summit and it will blow you away. There is one point that you can stand on and get a complete 360° unobstructed view of the many valleys and mountains in the area! It is definitely the most beautiful view I have ever seen on a trail. It took us 2 hours to complete the trail and I will be returning again. All in all, wonderful trail.
