HikingGreat!

Good hike, definitely the most crowded summit we saw during our few days in the park. The uphill (as opposed to the loop) was tough but not too long & the views were great at the top!

I really liked this Trail. I didn't do the full route that's on this app but I did about 3 miles round-trip. after about a mile you encounter a cemetery and I did an evening hike around 5 p.m. and encountered deer and wild turkeys!

HikingGreat!Rocky

I walked about 7 miles, so I’m not sure where I went quite wrong. Every time I thought I was nearing the summit, there was yet another up hill battle! Kicked my ass — would love to do the more strenuous climb one day considering this was more “mild”. I started this hike around 1:30/2 PM on a Friday and I was one of the only people ascending into the mountain at that point. I would recommend going super early or late afternoon on a weekday being that this is one the busiest trails. I had difficulties finding the trail head at first, I would recommend downloading the surrounding area(s) on Google maps because I had 0 service and had to manually follow my screen and being 22 that was just traumatic for me. I know some people park down by the falls trail head and walk up because the road up to this particular trail head is so narrow and windy I don’t know how you would go about two lane traffic. Walking probably wouldn’t be fun though. Nice trail, cool views, great challenge... super cold and windy at the top. ALSO: friendly reminder to defecate a bit further off the trail and to pick up your White Claw cans and peach cups. Leave it better than ya found it!!! It was just an issue around the day camp sites.

Great moderate hike along the AT. Several good viewpoints and not too packed, but Mary's Rock can get crowded. Can also start the hike from the end of the parking lot at Jewell Hollow Overlook. There's a small trail at the end of the pavement that connects to the AT.

Great hike! Accurately rated as moderate due to rocky trail but it’s really not a strenuous hike. Beautiful overlooks, well marked, and hardly saw anyone else until we got to Stonyman summit.

This is an excellent alternative to the main Old Rag loop, especially if you’d like some solitude.

Great trail, very rocky regardless of which way you take the loop. The creek down at the cabin is the perfect spot to take a break and recharge for the steep climb out.

Really beautiful, and great way to see Old Rag without the rock scramble and still a great workout. Definitely solidly moderate and closer to 6 miles. I hiked this alone, and it was lovely. It’s pretty steep in parts, and while tennis shoes worked fine, the descent especially would have been more comfortable with the support of hiking boots. I went midday on a Monday and passed 20 or so groups coming down as I went up. Unfortunately not many masks on folks , but you can maintain some distance as you pass if you are willing to step off the path.

HikingGreat!Muddy

Not too long, not too strenuous. The views were nice, even on a foggy day. I saw about 2-3 dozen people total (Saturday). Northern 2/3s or so of the trail is quite muddy - be sure to have a clean pair of shoes and socks waiting in the car!
