Come to this hidden gem all the time with my Lab. She loves playing in the creek that runs through the middle of the park and its a fun and easy little hike around.

Really interesting trail, but very populated. It's an easy hike with a lot to see and several spots for the pups (and you) to swim. The bridge over the James River was a really cool way to start and end the trip. The structures and rock wall along the way were really cool places to explore and take photos. I'd say it's more of an urban walk than a hike, though. We had to park a bit up the road (parking is very limited, especially for how busy it is) and in total "hiked" just over 3 miles from start to finish.

Awsome walking trails! Beautiful scenery! However we got a little turned around in certain spots. Just follow the map, you walk down a road a little bit but if you follow the map it will bring you to the rest of the trail :)

Huge tree down that I had to climb under. I was running so that was a hindrance. Trail is nice and shady for walking Easy to park.

fantastic. so many cool things to see along the way. river is beautiful and you can swim in it. recommend water shoes

Great way to get around downtown without going through the hustle bustle of busy streets. There are restaurants with outdoor seating along the path. Excellent urban path!

Great trail just to get out and about. Very easy. Make it longer by walking the Buttermilk trail to Belle Isle.

Very neat trail. Shaded and a lot of historical pieces along the trail. Bring water and bug spray!

Overall a great trail. We took our 6 and 2 year old and they loved it. If you have younger kids bring a carrier as their legs get tired. Don’t forget snacks and water!

nice trail for hiking or running. watch for glass. multiple times I stopped to pick up glass from broken bottles on the trail.

Excellent walking trail. Mostly shaded.

Great hike considering you are downtown richmond. Not very challenging, but constantly going up and down the river bank which it makes a moderate workout. Great views of the city and river. Great trail

Shaded for the most part. Narrow in spots. Plenty of places to stop and watch the James go by. Mostly flat except for the stairs by the parking area. Lots to see along the way.

This is not an easy trail as rated. Definitely moderate with a lot of ups and downs and switchback. Very shaded but not well marked. Think like a biker and you'll probably make right choices. Using All Trails GPS was a first.

One of my favorite trails along the James! Plenty of nooks along the trail to set up and swim for the day, with trees and some distance between each spot that gives a sense of privacy. The trail itself offers beautiful up-close views of the river. Definitely one of my favorite spots in Richmond.

Great trail. Paved so great for strollers and families. Quite a few elevation changes that gives you that extra challenge especially if you’re running it. It’s completely covered in trees so it helps keep the sun off of you. So peaceful, one of my favorites.

Bring an umbrella!

Great views of the James River. Fantastic place to go for an afternoon stroll. Pack a lunch and enjoy a superb river view from downtown Richmond.

Some bouldering or mountain biking can be thrown in for an extra fun element.

The view of the river is great. This is a fantastic place for a morning or afternoon walk. Pack a lunch and enjoy the views while you eat. This is a very easy walk.

I am pretty sure that this page also has incorrect information. Dogs are allowed, even welcome, just about anywhere outdoors in Richmond as long as they are on a leash. Richmond is a very dog friendly city.

we didnt do the whole trail. the map is not completely accurate, so we missed a few turn offs, but it call connents and is a good hike.

I ended up walking 2 miles down the road next to the trail, getting to the bridge and thinking to myself: “huh, how do i get up there?” I realized I wasn’t even on the trail. I did go back and loop around to it. From what I did complete, it is a nice trail that has a little bit of traffic on the weekends from bikers/runners but nothing to be concerned about. Going to go back and do the full trail soon. Nice area of the city that I would recommend for anyone wanting to spend a few hours outdoors.

Different trails and options to lengthen or shorten your trip. Shaded so easy to take a nice walk on a hot summer day.

very nice trail. we will do it again.

Very nice trail. To get very adventurous walk the trails closure to river side. We spotted Crane, Gar fish and Falcon. Will visit again since there is lot to explore. Our kids (10 & 2) really enjoyed it

Parking is very close to Trail. Trail is very close to James River. You can spend lot of time on the river side. Very kid friendly. My 10 year and 2 year old enjoyed a lot. Spotted a huge owl in the Trail was a bonus

I didn’t do the whole thing, but it’s rewarding for short in and out trips. Lots of constant, moderate up and down. Very woody, so a bit buggy.
